1984, January 24th., Steve Jobs presented the first Macintosh Computer. We are glad to share our MAC POP Art, in tribute, in this Fediverse, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of that milestone with You, today.
Since the #MS & #IBM#DOS wasn't much more than a terminal with local CPU, floppy/hard disk support, the operating system was a "pirated" clone of #CPM. Even when IBM teamed up with Microsoft to break copyrights of Digital Research & Gary Kildall's IP on CP/M, #MSDOS wasn't up-to-date since there was no GUI available. #portrait@art work made in #SVG with @inkscape
More #inxi / #pinxi CPU issues, it looks like #fedora / #rhel have changed a default standard path in /sys for unknown reasons, thus breaking inxi cpu speed collection. This tripped need to do more refactors, this time to the fake cpu data debugger logic, it was not complete.
Also, a new codeberg issue pointed out that in many #Linux I can get basic RAM/RAM array data from udevadm, which appears to dump some dmi data into itself, available to user.
@mjgardner@adamw@Perl if I thought there was any chance of altering #ibm's course here I would also try to be displomatic, and I am aware of the positive contributions #rhel made in the past but they walked over the line, and haven't walked back yet, the #SoftwareFreedomConservancy noted that only a lawyer generated decision could have gotten so close to the limit of legal, and SFC said in their view, they've actually crossed that limit.
Hobbes #OS2 archive is closing. I confess I weathered the storm after #IBM dropped the ball and got an #eComStation license but even that feels ancient today. Rest in peace, OS/2. We had a great run, you and I. Here are some shots of my souvenirs from my time at IBM. I did dump/trace analysis back in the day.
It truly is amazing how much you can do for the #BSD community in a #MSFT, #GOOGL, #AMZN, #IBM ( and friends ) sponsored #FOSS event of the year, with no:
