Just one of these schematics is correct. Can you see why?

Expecting some circuit boards today maybe. Exciting - my first use of right through to actually producing PCBs, though I've worked up a few schematics in the past, and one other PCB layout.

Haven't bought any new boards for a project in a couple of years either, so it's nice for that reason too.

Happy to have dumped from my tool set.

Dear @kicad: I'm pretty sure I'm ignorant to why some decisions were made regarding the start screen, yet it makes no sense to me. Is there any explanation why things are not how I put in the attached image? Thanks! Regardless, still a wonderful tool (that I absolutely love). Cheers! #kicad #ux Edit: I mixed "screen state" with "screen space" in the image. 👅

Anyone have an open-source #KiCad PCB design that 3D renders with components and looks at least moderately interesting? Doesn't need to be anything specific. I just need a 3D model of a PCB for a demo of a simple program.
I've tried using some projects linked from the KiCad web site, but even for the ones where a rendering is shown on the web site, the only renderings I can get have no components, just the bare PCB. I must not have the necessary libraries.
Thanks!!!

Aha - tools for the win. Wondered to myself, can I export an out of ?

A quick Duck Search tells me yes, there's a plugin called which will do it!

You convert an object to a greasePencil object then export that as an SVG. Nice.

@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

I'm assuming will import an SVG for a board outline. We'll see…

It's been a couple of years since I last used . I had just finally given up on in spite of my large library personal parts, but it was time.

A bit of a learning curve, but I got there, and was happy with KiCad's capabilities. Now I guess I'll ramp up from scratch again. Ugh. Hope it comes back quickly.

Checking versions, I have 5.1.12 and see the latest is… gulp 8.0.2. Well, I'm ramping up from dim recollections anyway, so it shouldn't add much extra effort.

Are you working with an KiCad or Fritzing and want to support them? Select the Development Contribution option during checkout. This will add a €2 charge to your order, we will double this and transfer it to the developer of the tool you used.

It seems to have happened without much fanfare, but about a month ago @purism has released the Librem 5 hardware layouts under GPLv3 (as original PADS and converted KiCad projects), joining the schematics that were already available from the start.

I'm designing some MIDI controller with magnetic hall effect sensors and KS-20 series switches, in the style of those Jankó keyboards. I'm not only getting around PCBWay's prices, but also creating a very nicely scalable system. I would need some extra info on how I should place the sensors (Gateron's material shows it on the bottom, which will make my life harder).

So after spending over a week fighting to let me package the printer's drivers and giving up and using a docker print server, now doesn't want to print on the actual page.....

Making Kicad parts... I reverse the brightness so I can read the pages without getting too tired. Having ME/CFS sucks.

Optical illusion I found while using KiCad...

all the lines in this picture are straight. But, presumably because of the hashed keep-out zone, the outline of the ESP32 looks tilted. Is there a name for this?

Just like me, my first-rev PC-6001 RAM/ROM expander cartridge looks good but doesn't work. I think I've missed shorting the MSW1/MSW2 jumper that keeps the computer from working if it's open and the cartridge is detected. Hopefully an easy bodge and then I can enjoy Extended BASIC.

I've spent much of the weekend working on my gate level logic simulator of the 2200 serial processor.

Here it is after processing a LA 6 instruction, which loads the immediate value 6 into the A register (6 is also the bytecode for LA n).

So far the schematics have functioned flawlessy, the only bugs have been in the simulator code.

bread80,
@bread80@mstdn.social avatar

The aim of this project is to prove the schematics are correct before I turn them into a PCB. The simulator is importing netlist files exported from and joining multiple boards via there onboard connectors.

The Kicad files are at https://github.com/bread80/datapoint2200 Not totally up to date but includes the PCB layouts so far.
