Aha - tools for the win. Wondered to myself, can I export an out of ?

A quick Duck Search tells me yes, there's a plugin called which will do it!

You convert an object to a greasePencil object then export that as an SVG. Nice.

Oh well Blender's Object > greasePencil > SVG export is very simple and fast! How nice!

When exporting the SVG, the current view is used, so if using an oblique view of your model (I used a dummy object here) you get an oblique SVG.

From an overhead view in Blender, I export to get a nice SVG that I can use for a PCB outline. Very useful.

Some pics for illustration:

The object is converted to a GreasePencil outline, and menus are shown where the export to SVG option is pulled out of a dropdown menu. The current view is from an oblique angle, so the resulting line drawing (aka SVG) will be the same view.
The resulting SVG file pulled into the Inkscape program shows a heavy line drawing as generated by the Blender application. It's very clean and nice.
An overhead 'plan' view of the same object. In this format, the shape is useful for me to import into a circuit board layout tool called KiCad which will let me use that outline in a circuit board design. Very nice results, and easy.

The linear_extrude() module got an additional parameter "v" defining the direction of the extrusion (must be in positive Z direction).

linear_extrude(10 * sqrt(3)/2, v = [1, 1, 1], scale = 0.5) square(10);

Thinking about trying 3D-modlling (and maybe 3D-printing) again... Any recommendations for CAD software?

(Years ago I did some stuff using Autodesk 123D Design, but it got deprecated and is buggy as hell today)

@inkscape isn't just a beauty and powerful application for , but with extensions like and it becomes a free & open hub for & projects. It only requires the investment of a @Raspberry_Pi 5 to set this up. Amazing that it works so much better than while cheaper as an iMac (including the CNC machine), isn't it?

Realizing tasks () work well as escapism. You can lose yourself in such work, fully immersed in 3D design world, and hours will just fly by without notice.

Eventually I got a trial 3D print started and I've shifted back to a software integration task I've been neglecting. Made some progress there, so it wasn't a total escape today.

Turning my attention to supper now I think, while tending that rough first 3Dprint.

I finally made it: an XOR mechanism that requires exactly one of two keys to be inserted at a time. I call it the 🗝️ .

This is very useful for example to track where important small things go: Want to take the car keys? You have to insert your name tag to unlock it.

My first mechanical project with and it was great!

A wonderfully curved 1860s blonde sandstone tenement on the corner of Wilton Street and Belmont Street in the West End of Glasgow.

For me, nice, sweeping curves are one of the major features missing from many modern buildings. I've often wondered if this is because straight-edged boxes are much easier to draw with the Computer-Aided Design software now used by many architects.

Ich habe ein Faible für gute Kartendarstellungen. Deshalb habe ich mich auch immer mehr für als für interessiert.

Jetzt werde ich aber wohl um ein paar CAD-Dinge nicht herum kommen.
Deshalb suche ich eine CAD-Software, die möglichst als verfügbar sein sollte, idealerweise DWG- oder zumindest DXF-Daten bearbeiten kann - und mir im besten Fall auch den Einstieg in Richtung ebnet.

Welche Software würdet Ihr da empfehlen?

not everything is made for u! some things are made for other developers. a lot of things, even.

and that's fine! no one's forcing you to use this particular bit of stalkerware. if you can't figure it out, just move along
