having said the #oil from the #Rosebank filed would be used to further the UK's #energysecurity it now transpires that it will be sold on the global market as normal....
Frankly not only would I not trust a Tory who told be a zebra was black & white, if (s)he was on fire I wouldn't piss on them either... they are a bunch of lying hypocrites who've destroyed the country & are laughing all the way to their offshore banks.... [and breath]
Climate groups begin legal actions against Rosebank North Sea oil project
#Greenpeace and the campaign group #Uplift argue that the decision to press ahead with the #Rosebank development – the #UK’s biggest untapped #oilfield – is incompatible with the UK’s legally binding #climate commitments, and say ministers’ original analysis ignored the devastating impact of burning #oil from the site.
In London passiert Erstaunliches, breite Bevölkerungsschichten blockieren Mitarbeitern der Barclay Bank den Zugang zu ihren Arbeitsplätzen, #climateaction#rosebank#NetZero#equinor
The UK Gov't just approved #Rosebank, the UK's biggest undeveloped #oil field. But we still have a chance to stop it. Join the urgent call on the Norwegian PM to stop Equinor’s oil field + all oil & #gas
We had about 50 people at the protest outside the NSTA (North Sea Transition Authority), formally Oil & Gas Authority, the 'regulator' which 'approved' the Rosebank oil field development.
Hope all the other protests went well and. None of this is going to change by voting, everyone needs to organise and get out into the streets!
This Saturday there is a demonstration outside the North Sea Transition Authority in #Aberdeen, the 'regulator' who greenlit the exploitation of the Rosebank Oilfield.
So the pace of climate breakdown and heating in particular is accelerating, it probably has something to do with clouds, and we'll probably hit 1.5°C next year. This is set to be the most anomalous month on record, following the last two most anomalous months in July and August.
The UK gov have of course expanded fossil fuel extraction.
Our systems of power and consumption are getting us killed and we're not acting like it. I am so scared.
The #Tories 'are denying climate reality & prioritising its own short-term economic interests over the long-term wellbeing of our children & grandchildren'!
Also, on #Rosebank, some years ago I heard an industry pundit suggest that Statoil, now #Equinor, might be one of the first oil firms to become a non-hydrocarbons energy company. Clearly that won't happen till we hit 3 or 4 degrees, if ever.
Leopards don't (usually) change their spots.
The #UK takes yet another step on the path to the dark side.
“We have today approved the Rosebank Field Development Plan which allows the owners to proceed with their project."
Which begs the question: WHO is it, exactly, that owns fossil fuels under national waters? And who will pay for the various kinds of mess caused by the drilling?
"Climate campaigners have launched two separate legal challenges to government plans to open a massive new oilfield in the North Sea.
Campaigners say the UK public will carry almost all the cost of developing the field, while #Rosebank’s owners are set to receive around £3bn in tax breaks. And they claim the project will not cut household energy bills, as the oil sold on the world market would make no material difference to the price UK consumers pay."
