"Welcome to the #Sunak and #Starmer show and welcome to the next four, five, six or seven months of your life."
BBC
I can reveal that neither of them will be presenting the policy choices that are needed on the face of multiple symptoms of systems #collapse.
Instead do take a look at and promote the #GettingReal policy portfolio. https://gettingreal.org.uk
“It is still up for argument both within his party and among voters whether he is a firmly anchored leader of genuine conviction, the case made by his allies. Or is he, as enemies to both right and left contend, a ruthless opportunist who will say or do anything to get power?”
Oh look SIR Kier Starmer is doubling down on the Xenophobia with his new buddy Natalie
He can do this because he feels entitled to all our votes because, lol, "he's not the Tories!" #Ukpol#Ukpolitics#Starmer#NatalieElphicke#SmallBoats
“That’s odd, observed Rajan. Because you forced Labour’s North of Tyne mayoral hopeful, Jamie Driscoll, out of the party for sharing a platform with Ken Loach. And Diane Abbott is still not allowed back in despite having apologised for her antisemitic remarks.”
@fkamiah17 I should say #Starmer is appalling but he has a long way to go gefuee he catches TB, who remains one of the biggest criminals to have walked the planet. SureStart was lovely but doesn’t begin to balance out his international crimes or the fucking he gave to British society
‘Bland’ is not good enough. Just being ‘not the Tories’ is not good enough. Especially when your policies are becoming increasingly like the Tories. And you tell us you’re just going to pick up where the Tories left off when you enter government.
Starmer welcomes #FarRight Tory defector Natalie Elphicke to Labour
“And the reason that she’s given for joining the Labour Party is very, very important because I think she speaks for very many Tory voters,” Starmer said.
“In saying that the Tory party has changed, it’s left the centre ground. [WOT?!] But equally the Labour Party has changed and we are pretty clearly the party of the national interest, of country first, party second.”
Right on Keir. Your primary thoughts seem to be ending divisions by centralising power in Westminster and denying process and control to the other three countries in this ‘so precious Union’ - one that is long past its use by date.
You don't care about or even care to represent Scottish interests - what is nonsense really about?
I'm incensed to see #Starmer say ”Winning the trust of people across past divides, such as leave and remain, or yes and no in Scotland, is vital.”
#Brexit and #Scottish independence are not past divides, they're current. Leaving the #EU has been a disaster which in no way resembles the promises of the Leave campaign. #Scotland deserves to be able to reassess the union as so much has changed since the #independence vote a decade ago.
Is it Keir? Is it really that time? I could be mistaken but didn't this fraud spout some bollocks about unity and broad churches before? It was right before he started purging socialists from Labour, if memory serves...
Once the hoo-haa settles on local elections (that no-one in Scotland voted in — slight problem when you’re feverishly trying to extrapolate piss poor turn out into a General Election results map, eh?) even Beth Rigby is sounding crestfallen that Starmer has fucked up her chance to break a ‘landslide for our times’ prediction.
Starmer could still piss away the General Election. He’s so awful no one’s actively running too him — he’s winning because the Tories are staying home or voting Lunatic.
@Andy_European I agree with the analysis that says #starmer will really struggle with both turn-out and rejection of his gaza 'policy' among other failings
However, extrapolating from an English local election (in some areas only) to a general election is a huge stretch
The lib-dems wont get the same support as they do locally and there will probably be far fewer independents - and turnout will probably still be historically low but higher than thursday
@zzypt The #tories have done that many times IIRC , so on this issue, the timid, beige, flip-floppy one feels on safe ground
Just dont tell #starmer the #snp did it already in #scotland otherwise starmer will have to condemn the idea and tell everyone about why its not possible, not a priority, and unaffordable....
Starmer must be so conflicted - agreeing with the #tories is fine, but adopting an #snp policy will have him quivering like a jelly.
Since when was there a "St George's Day" event in central London?
Anyway, this was the scene a whole hour before the thing was supposed to start. A bunch of flagshagging maniacs fighting amongst themselves. Mounted police had to intervene.
I'm sure the red and blue Tories will have something to say about it 🙄 #UKPolitics#ChristoFash#Flagshaggers
@fkamiah17 The joy is that St George's day will just be noted as a day when the violent hard right come out to play... there will be no Guinnes sponsorship and funny hats, and folk songs, and friendly banter in pubs, or rivers dyed white and red in a gesture of international celebration.
Sunak rejects the offer of a mobility scheme for young people between the EU & UK
Labour also rejected the EU's proposal which would've allowed young people to live, work & study in the bloc
Opinion: This is what I hate about politics! The Tories know they've made a mess of Brexit, but daren't do anything to repair the damage. Labour can't agree to it because they'll be accused of reversing Brexit
#Sunak is battling with #ReformUK for the #FarRight#Gammon vote, so there's zero chance he'd touch it for fear of #Farage claiming #Brexit's failed because it's the wrong type of Brexit. 🙄
#Starmer doesn't want to reignite the 2019 "Get Brexit Done" battle which proved so effective against the hapless #Corbyn.
For #Labour it's a case of power first, then resolve issues like this if they gain power after #GE2024. Starmer won't say or do anything beforehand to jeopardise that.
