Very good article from Maya Goodfellow on whether Labour has anything to offer asylum seekers other than tough talking, gimmicks and crackdowns.

🧵 1/2: Hear from the professionals complaining the government has done everything not just to derail but also to keep adding to their costs:
"There isn't a single route that we run that we can do end-to-end on traction" (yes, they use trains, ever smelt those?) and " access charge has increased by 140% since 2010" (oh, the year the came to power!) .
I cannot overstate how "third world" this is looking...

Labour activists in Jeremy Corbyn’s constituency have accused the national party of an “egregiously undemocratic selection process” after it chose a candidate without consulting the local branch.

@Wen I'm increasingly worried about the prospect of a disUK government led by and his cabal. He's totally abandoned the left.

My hope is that the majority of voters in continue to support the who have by and large been a leftwing force for good in this country. I fear that significant Labour GE gains here would be catastrophic for devolution and for Scotland in general.

Neither of them believe in anything (with the exception of power for its own sake) but are strangely influential in their own parties. It is difficult to see them having come into politics with any interest in serving either their constituents or the country. Other politicians such as can be, rightly, be criticised but they have their countries interests at heart.

In my experience independents are Tories with a grey rosette.

I live in an area with a lot of independent councillors. They side with the Tories on everything.

@OliverNoble I make no assumptions. I explained in the post that it’s my experience.

As for Natalie Elphick. It was a calculated stab in the back for Sunak. It’s naive to think she is a reflection of where Labour stands or will stand on the political spectrum. She will need to prove herself as a Labour MP - if she’s reelected.

Labour has an election to win. has played a blinder, but there are no guarantees. Hence my original post.

Who privatised #English water?

In 1997, there were clear priorities which needed to be tackled. The state of the #NHS, our crumbling schools & the UK's outdated infrastructure. Renationalisation took a back seat.

HOWEVER, #Starmer's #Labour are creating #GBEnergy as a way of righting these wrongs, but he can't do it all in his first parliament. He has to be pragmatic & prioritise the most urgent needs first, & hopefully get around to our public services after.

AnthonyFStevens,

is a different matter. As I explained yesterday, Jeremy Corbyn is a lifelong Eurosceptic, hence why he was nowhere to be seen until the final two weeks of the Remain campaign. Even then he only appeared under pressure because he was the leader of an 80% Remain party.

's detractors blame 's 2019 election dry bumming on him for pushing for a confirmatory referendum. Corbyn was dead set against it, but only yielded through pressure.

AnthonyFStevens,
@AnthonyFStevens@mastodon.online avatar

@Wen @CloudyMrs @Theriac @soren

There's several reasons why this could happen, as with a recent case in #Liverpool, where the proposed candidate was an anti #Starmer #Corbynista throwback to the #Militant 80s.

The local CLP were at war with each other, & almost fell apart until the PLP stepped in. The fella was a radical #Socialist extremist, who was better suited to #Momentum, the #NIP or #Galloway's Workers Party.

Today's #Labour is a #Social #Democrat party of #Centrist doctrine.
