I've been using either @Mojeek or #StartPage on my browsers. Over the last two years of using #Mojeek it has become noticeably better, but not so much for StartPage...
uBlacklist - a browser add-on for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari to block websites and entire domains from search results on Google, Bing, Brave, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Qwant, Searx, Startpage.com, and more.

Quel moteur de recherche utilisez vous ?
google ?
hum j'utilise startpage.com
Pourquoi ?
Part of my Home Lab journey is setting up some alerts / dashboards to let me know the health of my servers at a glance.
This led me to the concept of custom start pages for your browser, like these. Seems to be almost an art form! (or a way to waste time fiddling, or both)
Is there a favorite among devs? A different one for Home Labbers? What do you like for personal use? Who knew?!
So, this surveillance capitalism thing is totally out of hand. Today @protonmail had a great explainer (https://mastodon.social/@protonmail/111165171600485248) on the mind bending evil Google is up to with it's new "privacy features". But pretty much every tech company is now in the business of profiling you and monetizing your tidbits.
What can you do? A lot as it turns out, but if you just want ONE EASY THING that you can do today, SWITCH TO FIREFOX (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/) and make DuckDuckGo your default search engine.
Somewhat inspired by @theprivacydad's most recent blog post, here's a list of privacy-friendly software that "just works" about as well as (if not better than) more invasive alternatives, even for the relatively non-tech savvy:
This may be obvious, but I recently started routinely adding "-youtube" to google searches. This eliminates most pages with links to garbage YouTube-monetized videos that try to attract people looking for basic instructions on how to do simple things. Greatly improves the quality of search results.
I still use keyword filters (eg with #Startpage), always have, but long to be able to have a standard set that always apply and to be able to add domains and keywords to this with a right click on the results.
Trying #Startpage after #DuckDuckGo search results quality went down some time ago and I switched back to #Google. I wonder if I should have given DDG another chance instead.
Just to add you can use any #Nitter instance to follow Twitter accounts etc by RSS without actually having to soil your device with ads, algorithms and Elon's latest fantasy.
I was going to say #Google is your friend but to be consistent I should say #Startpage.com is your anonymous friend ;-)
#Quant is also on my radar, along with #Mojeek, #Swisscows, and #StartPage. My money is on the Germans, though. I’d rather bet on a nonprofit, plus I’m already using a German email system (#Tutanota) and love it.
This is a concern because you are promoting StartMail with your post but do not use the service.
There are people that work for both Startpage & StartMail, resources are shared between the two companies since they were founded by the same people, and there are multiple links to #StartMail on the #Startpage website.
