#Braverman admits, 'We have been monitoring the situation very closely for weeks now"

Although what has been done in practical terms took place days after the French and Germans acted.

THREAD: This thread discusses the December 2020 forced expulsion of people inhabiting farming communities in a disputed border area claimed by both Ethiopia 🇪🇹 and Sudan🇸🇩. data appears to suggest that Sudanese troops may have carried out atrocities when it removed hundreds if not thousands of Ethiopians from the Al Fashaga triangle. Nobody has properly documented the expulsions and there's not enough evidence to draw conclusions.

France is evacuating citizens from 41 countries. Ukraine is evacuating people from other countries including Georgia and Peru. Britain is only evacuating British citizens. Britain has shrunk so, so far in the world.

Well, the ceasefire in collapsed within hours. War has resumed. Today, the BBC confirmed that 8 Ethiopian citizens are among the dead. The dead were hit by stray bullets, shrapnel or shelling in the capital Khartoum. Ethiopia meanwhile, has become an evacuation hub, with thousands of Turkish, Sudanese, Somalis and Europeans landing in the country in recent days.

This report is from the BBC's Amharic (widely spoken in Ethiopia) language service.

I’m seeing folks from on despairing that the site’s new limits, and its general m*sk-era brokenness, will compromise their ability to stay updated on the catastrophe unfolding in their homeland and share emergency info.

Once more: mastodon/fediverse needs to think seriously about how to expand to users in Asia and Africa and how to handle emergencies

CEASEFIRE: Breakthrough in Sudan.

10 days into the conflict between Sudan's national military and paramilitary forces, the factions have agreed to a 72 hour ceasefire which appears to be holding, unlike previous attempts at a ceasefire. Ceasefire was mediated over by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Foreign states want to use this to ramp up the evacuation of their nationals.

Will this lead to concrete talks between the warring factions?

SUDAN PEACE TALKS

22 days of madness. 22 days of needless carnage between Sudanese government forces and RSF paramilitary forces.

Finally, on day 22, the warring factions have met face to face in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in talks mediated over by both 🇸🇦 and 🇺🇸 that are seen by the international community and many Sudanese, as the only possible hope for a permanent end to hostilities that have killed over 550 people and displaced hundreds of thousands.
