I feel like I’m missing something, but the Beeper Mini saga seems like a straightforward case of EULA violation that #Apple ought to be able to block without too much fuss. #iMessage#beepermini
Closing out the year, let's talk about the NUMEROUS court cases and regulatory investigations that Apple faces. Also, what kind of tech did YOU gift this holiday season? Let's get our tech week started right!
From @gruber on Apple paying for the infrastructure cost of Beeper Mini's messaging:
"The whole business model for Beeper Mini presupposed that Apple should just foot the bill for the usage of Beeper’s (paying!) customers, as though iMessage is a public resource, or part of your cellular phone service, like SMS/MMS/RCS."
"We took steps to protect our users by blocking techniques that exploit fake credentials in order to gain access to iMessage. These techniques posed significant risks to user security and privacy, including the potential for metadata exposure and enabling unwanted messages, spam, and phishing attacks. We will continue to make updates in the future to protect our users."
@jasonhowell@ronxo@ant_pruitt Why am I not surprised that Apple apparently has already blocked #BeeperMini ? #Apple is far more interested at locking their users into the Apple-Ecosystem than actually providing a useful service to them.
I was enjoying #BeeperMini on my #Android device and NOW Apple has come along, turned into the evil queen, poisoned the apple and turned off access to their network for the app. I'm not even mad I paid my $2 to Beeper, I'm more mad at CrApple for undermining the gapping security hole they have between Android and #iOS devices simply because #iMessage is the ONLY thing keeping people in the walled #Apple ecosystem at this point, at least on the mobile front. #rant
Now that #iMessage has been reverse engineered, open sourced, and brought to #Android via the #BeeperMini app, what's to stop other messaging apps like @signalapp from adding iMessage integration?
I saw the Beeper Mini announcement. As someone who has never used imessage and doesn't see the value, what does paying $2/mo for it get me that regular messaging doesn't?
New Beeper Mini app lets Android phones appear as blue bubbles in iMessage chats
This is a dedicated stand-alone Android app by Beeper which will carry a $1.99 pm subscription after the 7-day trial period. It validates via SMS as an iPhone 7 (just as an iPhone would) so no Apple ID is required, but there is also an optional Apple ID sign ...continues
