SR 410 Chinook Pass is closed to traffic eastbound at milepost 57 near Crystal Mountain Boulevard, 12 miles west of the summit. Westbound traffic is closed at milepost 74.5 Morse Creek, 5 miles east of the summit. Clearing efforts are underway, but crews discovered two washouts both east and west of Chinook Pass summit. Repairs are in progress. No estimate for reopening, although crews typically reopen each year around Memorial Day. Updates will be provided as information is available.
Auroras is the theme for this week, so here is another of the Cascade mountains. Mount Hood which is located it Oregon and one of the Cascade volcanoes.
This creator makes a great point. I support restoring the names of the Cascade peaks to their original names—for justice but also because they are generally superior names.
Eagle Creek, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon. February 2017 (10 months prior to the huge wildfire consuming the entire valley and beyond). By far the most epic & memorable winter hike of my life so far (also great [again] in summer!). Pure solitude in pure cinematic PNW wilderness!
Made it onto the #train. I got lucky, but Amtrak is the best.
Because North America deprioritized passanger rail, they made it for freight first, people second. This makes it slow, in so much that passanger travel has to work around other cargo. Nonetheless, at a not particularly significant price jump over the bus, customer service is magnitudes better than that option. And if something strands you regarding the train, the rail line will get you there, using their own buses if need be. #Cascades#YVR#SEA#Vancouver#PNW#Travel
Cascades of Time Gardens Banff Alberta Canada
We first hit the Cascades of time Gardens which was at the administration building that was the historic first Site of Banff National Park and all of the Canadian national parks.
#TBT to #backpacking through Sahale Arm in the #Cascades this time last year. I’m still awestruck by the rows of mountains. The second photo has me pouting at #MtRainier waaaaay in the distance.
I found an old and very faded color slide of my #father and I hiking in the #Oregon#Cascades sometime in the early to mid 1970s. I tried to take a picture of the slide with my phone. It's the best I could do. This picture would have been from a #backpacking trip either in the Three Sisters Wilderness or the Mount Jefferson Wilderness.
