I've been using Inkscape for over 10 years. If I had been using Illustrator for 10 years I would have paid Adobe over $2,500 in "rental" fees for a subscription that stops as soon as I stop paying.

Instead I started paying $5 a month to Inkscape to help make sure we can all use it for free for as long as we want.

3D Design tool for needy kids, the search continues.

We have old laptops to loan out to kids from poor backgrounds. They don't have internet. 2D design we have covered with , and the laptops run well (but not Windows). What I need is a 3D design program. Suggestions welcome.

But to any gurus? How do u approach joining two circles like this?

I'm looking for a more up to date distro than @system76's popos and linux mint which are both based on Ubuntu 22.04 and are now too old for development (gtk4 issues).

I've tried Fedora and it's just not very good. I could use it just as a building OS, but having to reboot to get into a nice desktop isn't a great setup.

And I'm really lazy, so no arch, gentoo, etc.

And no Ubuntu. I don't do enshitified linux.

Any thoughts?

I wanted to try out Vector Graphics, so here is a wasp.

My review: Inkscape has wayyy less tools for non-destructive workflow than I expected. Most shapes have separate objects for fill and outline, which makes adjustments painful (e.g., I can no longer easily change the shape of the wings, or the eyes).

"Low poly" self-portrait made using #Inkscape for a card deck project. I'd not done this before, and it turns to be a fun, near-flow activity. I'd be happy to make one for you if you send me an image! #lowpoly #selfportrait #art

Mildly bitter sketch Friday. The more stylized the graphic, the less likely a highly opinionated project like any of the "foss creative suite" is open to change. /me slightly disappointed about all the bland identities.

Inkscape app icon sketch.
Mypaint app icon sketch. Not the streamlined fast little app I once admired.

Oooh, has the node graph functionality, which allows you to compose vector objects from the primitives like fill, stroke, transform and live filters in a visual manner!

Node graph interface and filters both give me this nice break-out I needed after LPEs in . Don't get me wrong: that program is THE legend, developers are masters of vectors, and it's purely native Gtk toolkit on which application is built. Right now, their priority is CMYK support, so follow if you're into printing.

I just love to experiment with shiny new software that's , especially one that uses and to its advantage.

Watch 'em apply circular repeat filter on a mere line to produce this fun sparkle effect. (It is Graphite's official channel, by the way. Wish they were on Mastodon?)

Question for the and community:

I started making a few "Powered by" Linux stickers in for the laptops that I own, and it turned into an all-day project with 50 distros represented.

I'd like to share the file for others to use, but I'm concerned about copyright issues, as some of the logos are trademarked, & I'm sure that some of them violate usage guidelines.

EDIT: I posted them: https://github.com/RockyC36/StickerPack

Well that's

chat server Rocket Chat decided to make their latest upgrade plain abusive. If you run your own, you are now required to enrole in a trial of their premium proprietary nonsense and it's likely the server is spying on it's admins and users.

great

Looks like is going to have to move chat systems. There's just no way to regain trust in an upstream that is abusive. Not without forking away from the abusers.

I guess it means position in the layers window, though I spent a long time ignoring that and trying to select the objects in different orders before I tried raising and lowering things.

Managed to get a prototype of the group translucency feature @jfml was asking about the other day.

When you enter a group in today, the status bar changes but that's about it. With this change, all other objects not in the group become 80% translucent allowing you to see that you are inside a group and which one on canvas.

Thoughts?

When the was in development in last year, I immediately saw it was useful for selecting the pattern lines in sewing patterns, like neckline options, and for a while, that was it.
But since then, I often use it to join broken paths together, and found it's good for joining back post-alterations shapes too, so less to no tracing is needed.
Would be cool to be able to include empty spaces between the paths in the future; still needed some cleaning ;)
