Last night I went to see Ex-Kraftwerk Wolfgang Flür perform. Peter Duggal was his warm up act. It was an amazing night with friends.

I stepped more than three times my daily step goal last night dancing!

I brought Wolfgang's Machine one album today and Peter's CD last night. The merchandise stand was cash only so I didn't have enough to get Wolfgang to sign one of his albums or t-shirts 😪

After listening today, I've discovered exactly how much Kraftwerk I like.

I enjoy 1 song from Trans-Europa Express ("Metal auf Metall"), tracks 2-6 from The Man Machine, and all of Computer World.

Arguably the most painfully awkward track is "Sex Object" from Electric Cafe (1986) and despite being a decades-long fan I never listened to the whole thing before today, but Apple Music decided that it was time, and it is now a thing that I have done.

If you were wondering why I was walking down the hall at work laughing "Oh my god, it even fades out at the end!" just now, now you know.

Future Sounds of Kraut Vol. I

If you dig the original kosmische Musik from the 70s ( etc.), this comp of modern Krautrock should tickle your fancy. Volume II is also good stuff.

An advertisement for the 1981 single "Pocket Calculator", from the American music trade magazine . The single got heavy airplay in but failed to catch on elsewhere. I was unaware of the promotional campaign with . Wonder what that was all about?

The people have spoken. You want a long music thread. So tonight, I'm sharing an absolutely nasty playlist that includes rock, hip hop, electronic, and outsider music.

Buckle your seat belts. It's about to get real.

First up is this live performance of "Ghost Riders" by the electronic punk band Suicide. Interesting fact about Suicide: they were the first band to call themselves "punk".

What a find today!
My son asked me if I could take him to the thrift store for a pair of white shoes he could paint for a project, & asked to go to one I hadn’t heard of that he goes to with his friends.

There was a bunch of basic records in there with $3-$5 tags on, but this didn’t have a price tag.
The old ladies didn’t know how much either, so they gave it to me for $3!
Quite the deal!

In the early 80s, both Radio-Quebec (now TeleQuebec) which I watched on UHF channel 17 (Montreal broadcast) and TVOntario (both similar to PBS in the USA) would produce educational programs to teach people how to use and program computers.

The radio-quebec program had even homework you had to send through mail. The TVOntario show had really intricate animation to explain concepts. For example, a pulse wave generation (and a PET).

f_dion,
@f_dion@mastodon.online avatar

The Radio Quebec show is not completely digitized. TeleQuebec apparently did not retain UMATIC tapes of the show. A bit surprising to me, but a real shame if true. 1983, same as bits and Bytes. But I found a few episodes on YouTube.

The intro music was the same as bits and Bytes, but without singing. Sounds even more like a track (thinking Neon Lights here).
