If there is anything out there on the interwebs that could fairly be characterized as:
The Absolute Idiot's Guide To Video Editing, And How To Teach An Old Dog To Do It When He Has Never Done Anything Like It, Preferably Using Best-In-Class FOSS Software Tools Which Are Herein Handily Identified For His Convenience
... it would benefit me for such resources to be made known.
Thank you!
(Boosts for a wider lazyweb search highly appreciated)
I have some experience with #Linux on servers, but not on desktops. Now I've ordered my first non-mac PC and am not sure which distro I should use. I'd like a minimal one to not have apps that I won't use and to have a chance to learn everything from the get-go.
#NixOS intrigues me, but I'm not sure if it is too advanced to start with.
Hey #SoftwareDevelopers of Mastodon, I have a sort of #LazyWeb request. For a while now, I’ve been looking for a fast, nice looking #MacOS diff tool, that is a one time purchase, and not too expensive ($50 USD or less). Open source is welcome as well. So far I’ve mostly found Windows ports (that still look like windows apps) and apps that are decidedly not Mac. Any #recommendations out there?
Wanted: A simple smart door lock for euro cylinder that works with NFC/RFID. Where you press a LEARN button on the lock, hold your (credit) card or phone with NFC/RFID next to it and done. No app, no cloud, just a card or phone. Does that exist? #lazyweb
Dear #lazyweb if I wanted to get a first approximation of how to optimize the size of a web page. Is there a tool that looks at just the assets and let's me know how much could be saved? (Image format/compression)
Next would be basic JavaScript compression/minimization settings.
I'm not going to touch includes/packages as that is more nuanced. I'm looking for something more static.
#lazyweb Anybody know a better way to print the size that all files (and directory entries, BUT NOT DIRECTORY CONTENTS) take up in a directory besides, e.g.:
ls -lh path/to/dir | head -n 1
(The above does what I want, just feels like there should be a better way...)
Dear #lazyweb I'm looking for a very particular product from like 10 years ago (or it's modern equivalent).
It was a linksys usb/ethernet dongle. Tiny, like a tube of lipstick, with 2 wifi interfaces built in, and a microcontroller web server/router. You'd connect it to USB, login to the web server via wifi (if you'd set it up already) or usb/ethernet if not. Then configure one wifi interface to connect to upstream wifi, and other wifi could act as a personal hotspot.
Someone posted a list of books, including Aimee Ogden's Emergent Properties, Alastair Reynolds' House of Suns, and Lina Rather's Sisters of the Vast Black, that has so far been excellent. I can't find it again, but it seems like I should add their blog to my RSS reader. #LazyWeb#Reading#SciFi#SpaceOpera
Hey #LazyWeb what are your favorite n95/kn95 masks? I’ve been just using surgical masks in places where I needed a mask but now that I’m a chemo patient I definitely want to make sure I get as strong of filtering as I can get.
Dear #lazyweb I'm currently staying in a hospital (nothing serious) and the Wi-Fi is odd: I can browse the web just fine except for Mastodon. I get a timeout error. This occurs in both the app (Tusky) and the browser. My instance is social.coop. I'm using Chrome on Android.
If it helps. I've noticed that some ads on Web pages also don't load. I'm assuming it's how they have their Wi-Fi/router configured?
This isn't critical, just massively interesting...
I have a eink tablet (https://goodereader.com/blog/electronic-readers/boyue-likebook-mars-e-reader-review) running Android, but recently switched from Tiny tiny RSS to Fresh RSS (freshrss.org).
Now there seems to be zero clients/apps which run on the eink tablet and support Fresh RSS syncing?
Don't really want go down the route of converting the OPML/RSS for this one device but RSS reading on eink displays are great.
Any thoughts??? #lazyweb
#lazyweb request: is there a good self-hosted product manual app I can run on my home server? I have a bunch of paper manuals for things that don't seem like they're worth hanging onto, and having a searchable collection of digital versions would be nice.
Kann jemand einen guten Kunstdruck Service empfehlen, möglichst in der Gegend von München/Augsburg/Kempten/Füssen? Besonders auch Siebdruck (nicht für Textilien)...
Can anyone recommend a good service for art prints near Munich/Augsburg/Kempten/Füssen? Especially also looking for screen printers (not for textiles)...
Are there good cli client audio players? Like something that I could run a command, point to a directory, and it would play the music displaying track Metadata and maybe an FFT / ascii art visual?
Something that would make me look like a cool hacker DJ. #lazyweb
