Added Low Tech Magazine to my list of DRM-free bookshops.
Low-tech Magazine was founded in November 2007 and underscores the potential of past and often forgotten technologies and how they can inform sustainable energy practices.
By the way, speaking of #Bowie I thought I'd share my recent shadow box that I made of my favourite #DavidBowie album. Admitedly hard to see the depth element in 2D. Planning an over ambitious 3 layer one of a Mr B video scene with internal lights too (way too ambitious?) . #ShadowBox#Music#AlbumCovers#Low
An official study of #low-traffic #neighbourhoods ordered by Rishi #Sunak amid efforts to stop them being built has instead concluded they are generally popular and effective
Okay, maybe it's not a song about the weather (dunno what it is about), but here are the brilliant lyrics. You can't argue they aren't about a low pressure weather system by the lyrics alone 😉 #low
Rotterdam!
Kris De Decker and I will be giving a workshop on building a Bike Generator workshop as part of #lowtechmagazine.
We will discuss energy production, low-voltage applications, hacking appliances and degrowth.

I'm going to have a bit of a #tech#rant (less charitable people might say #whine) here. If you just want jokes and cute bunny pictures, feel free to skip this one.
Object of my #ire this week? #Furnaces. I'm not even going to rant about their main control boards; most of that's been said better than I could say it, by others with more knowledge than I.
Those simple, reliable AC motors generally only run at one speed. They have no easy way to run them "#high" and "#low" like this.
When I replaced the furnace in my previous house, the new one had what was fairly new furnace technology at the time - its blower motor was a #DC motor. I think it was a permanent-magnet brushless motor, though I can't swear to that.
Such #brushless motors are everywhere these days. Cheap computer fans use them; better cordless tools use them, etc.
The advantage is that they are easily speed-controlled. They have simple #electronics on board -- simple today, they would have been #miraculous in #1970 -- that allow you to run them at almost any speed between "stop" and "full speed". They also have an easy way to #sense how fast they're turning, so you can adjust the control signal until it matches the speed you want.
It worked great. #Motor runs at #low speed all the time, stirs the air, runs fast when delivering heat, saves money.

If you're using Bitwarden*, you should probably log on to the website and increase the number of (will edit in later) rounds it uses. Once upon a time it was a ridiculously low number. They can't change the value without kicking you out of all of your devices, so it's up to you to change it.
It should be cranked up to where it takes a few seconds on your (probably rather fast) phone. I wish @bitwarden had a benchmark for this.
The #Rust orphan rule: understandable, but a bummer.
Using a library that didn't implement Eq/PartialEq on its primary structs? Good luck testing your downstream code! You can't just rub #[derive(PartialEq)] on those structs; you gotta write your own wrapper. 😩
"Just impl Deref!" you say? Sure, except maybe these structs have a lot of what would be classmethods in Python. Deref trick doesn't seem to work for those.
Plus, the “newtype pattern” is a lotta boilerplate even when it works?
Yes, here is how it works in more detail. #Iranian#windcatchers are a great invention. 😀
A great example of an ancient technology being adapted to present-day #Low-energy houses.
how to set up jellyfin with podman and selinux and an intel gpu (a380) for transcoding?
I try to follow the docs but somehow it doesn’t work as expected. How does your compose file look and what to choose in the settings?...
