Another garage find. This is an NEC APCIII. It's the US version of the pc9801. It runs MS-DOS but it has a different BIOS and a high resolution CGA adjacent display. So most DOS software is unlikely to work. Why do I have it? I don't know. I think I picked it up because it was weird and in the days before retro was cool, it was really cheap. Hopefully I'll have some time to tear it down and clean it up next weekend. #retrocomputing #nec #pc98 #retrocomputer

On #HuCardHuesday here’s “PC Genjin 3” also known as “PC Kid 3” and, in the US, as “Bonk’s Big Adventure”. This 1993 game developed by Red & published by #HudsonSoft is the third & most advanced of the #PCEngine’s flagship platform series.

I couldn't resist checking out the NEC APCIII a little bit. It's got what looks like a multi-serial card and a HDD (maybe 10 whole megabytes). Some of these ran System III UNIX. Maybe this was a multi user system? Also in a miraculous twist of fate, the CMOS battery hasn't leaked! #nec #retrocomputers #pc98

The back of the computer showing various ports.
An overview of the computer, it's packed with cards and cables.
A close-up of the CPU(?), a RAM expansion and the intact CMOS battery.

On here’s “Avenger”. This is a 1990 vertically scrolling helicopter shoot-em-up developed by Telenet and published by Laser Soft on CD-ROM2 format. For a CD based game, this is a little basic, but it’s actually not a bad game.

The quest to understand why my #NEC MultiSync 3D is all screwed up begins! First is this odd section of greasy dampness on the bottom board. Did it come from the power supply? Did it come from the neckboard? Neither? Both? #retrocomputing #crt #crtrepair

The CRT has crazy bright lines through it and some kind of wavy green pattern

Attention folks!

There is a retro PC seller at the St-Michel Flea Market, that is moving out of Montreal in a few months!

They are looking to sell off all of their inventory before moving, I wrote a short blog post on some of the interesting items I saw at their stand. There could be a chance they do shipping but I can't speak for them.

Hu-Boy PCE Gameboy Emulator (www.chrismcovell.com)

This is a program for NEC's PCE / TurboGrafx, etc. game hardware that emulates Nint*ndo's GameBoy system. Bear in mind that the PCE's CPU clock speed is not even twice that of the GameBoy, and that they both possess 8-bit CPUs (6502-like vs. Z80-like) with vastly different registers and instruction sets. So, yeah, it's a bit...
