Newest addition to the collection is this Japanese #NEC#PCFX console with 4 games.
It is the successor to the popular #PCEngine but was a commercial failure.
It has a limited games library of 62 games with one(!) shmup. #retrogaming#turbografx

On #HuCardHuesday here’s “Red Alert”. This is a 1989 top down run & gun game very similar to Mercs, developed by Laser Soft & published by Telenet on CD-ROM2 format. This was released in the US on the #TurboGrafx16 as “Last Alert”. #Retrogaming#NEC#PCEngine
On #HuCardHuesday here’s “Seirei Senshi Spriggan”. This 1991 vertically scrolling shoot-em-up was developed by #Compile & published by Naxat Soft. It was originally intended as a sequel to MUSHA Aleste for #Sega#MegaDrive before being transferred to #NEC#PCEngine. #Retrogaming
« #UK police chiefs have announced plans to equip officers with a mobile-based #FacialRecognition tool that will enable them to cross reference photos of suspects against a database of millions of custody images from their phones.
Another garage find. This is an NEC APCIII. It's the US version of the pc9801. It runs MS-DOS but it has a different BIOS and a high resolution CGA adjacent display. So most DOS software is unlikely to work. Why do I have it? I don't know. I think I picked it up because it was weird and in the days before retro was cool, it was really cheap. Hopefully I'll have some time to tear it down and clean it up next weekend. #retrocomputing#nec#pc98#retrocomputer
On #HuCardHuesday here’s “PC Genjin 3” also known as “PC Kid 3” and, in the US, as “Bonk’s Big Adventure”. This 1993 game developed by Red & published by #HudsonSoft is the third & most advanced of the #PCEngine’s flagship platform series. #Retrogaming#NEC#HuCard
I couldn't resist checking out the NEC APCIII a little bit. It's got what looks like a multi-serial card and a HDD (maybe 10 whole megabytes). Some of these ran System III UNIX. Maybe this was a multi user system? Also in a miraculous twist of fate, the CMOS battery hasn't leaked! #nec#retrocomputers#pc98
On #HuCardHuesday here’s “Avenger”. This is a 1990 vertically scrolling helicopter shoot-em-up developed by Telenet and published by Laser Soft on CD-ROM2 format. For a CD based game, this is a little basic, but it’s actually not a bad game. #Retrogaming#NEC#PCEngine
The quest to understand why my #NEC MultiSync 3D is all screwed up begins! First is this odd section of greasy dampness on the bottom board. Did it come from the power supply? Did it come from the neckboard? Neither? Both? #retrocomputing#crt#crtrepair
On #HuCardHuesday here’s “Pachio-Kun Juban Shobu”. This is a 1992 game developed & published by Coconuts Japan. Part of a long running series of games on multiple platforms, this is a Pachinko simulator with light RPG elements. #Retrogaming#NEC#PCEngine#HuCard
On #HuCardHuesday here’s “Shadow of the Beast”. This conversion of Psygnosis’s 1989 #Amiga action platform game was brought to #NEC#PCEngine on Super CD-ROM2 format by Victor Musical Industries in 1992. #Retrogaming
The 1970s-era #Amtrak#Turboliner that still sits in Adams Yard right next to the #NEC is such a silly historical artifact that still survives, even if Amtrak and NY want to forget about it.
There is a retro PC seller at the St-Michel Flea Market, that is moving out of Montreal in a few months!
They are looking to sell off all of their inventory before moving, I wrote a short blog post on some of the interesting items I saw at their stand. There could be a chance they do shipping but I can't speak for them.
This is a program for NEC's PCE / TurboGrafx, etc. game hardware that emulates Nint*ndo's GameBoy system. Bear in mind that the PCE's CPU clock speed is not even twice that of the GameBoy, and that they both possess 8-bit CPUs (6502-like vs. Z80-like) with vastly different registers and instruction sets. So, yeah, it's a bit...
