Does anyone know if there were alternative character generator ROMs available for the IBM MDA/Hercules adapter?
I have a Paradise Color/Mono Card [1] with a socketed 27C64, it'd be fun to have some switch-selectable alternative fonts.

In 1989, put an PC in the palm of your hand. It wasn't what we normally think of in an Atari product. In this blog post, we explore why this wasn't as much of a departure coming from Atari as it may seem. https://dfarq.homeip.net/atari-portfolio-pioneering-palmtop-pc/

The first CD-ROM drive was slow, expensive, and nearly the size of the PC you were connecting it to. The software was over-the-top expensive too. So what was the appeal? It felt like living in the future. https://dfarq.homeip.net/first-cd-rom-drive-philips-cm-100/

In the years before smartphones, HP took a completely different take on mobile computing from Palm or Apple. They shrunk a whole Turbo XT to fit in the size of your hand. And people quietly bought them by the truckload. This blog post speculates why. https://dfarq.homeip.net/hp-200lx-and-related-palmtops/

One of the cool things about playing with home computers on the is that you have to learn how to load games from disk, tape and, occasionally, hard drives in their native form.

On my quest to play the classic games on every system, I'm investigating the Acorn Electron and currently sitting at a command line prompt.

How to load a game on an early 80s, niche, British home PC?

I'll keep you informed...

The game is afoot!

Return of the Obra Dinn half off for the next day or two on Steam and Switch - genuinely one of my favorite games of all time. An intricate ghost ship puzzle, perfect for spooky season. Stellar soundtrack as well, dukope@mastodon.social is a genius.

So I picked up a thing last night! 😁 An almost minty copy of Doom 2 for $70 Canadian dollaroos! That's about $51 freedom bucks! Feeling REAL lucky right now! 😁

Anyone know how to refurbish and upgrade an IBM Model M from 1998 with the rubber mouse nipple to have USB. I feel like this needs some TLC and it still works but nothing I have uses PS/2 anymore unfortunately and I would love to use this in the homelab when tinkering with SBC’s and my servers

Did You Know⁉️ MYST actually had a short-lived comic book run.

It was originally planned as a four-issue series. Though it sadly never made it past Issue #1 🤯

You can check out Issue #0 and Issue #1 right here in THE VIDEO GAME LIBRARY 📚

Ok, bubble. I just had a discussion which yielded a very interesting question. Old systems had a PCI-2-ISA bridge. How does the bridge determine where to route a specific IO-read/write?
How does it know that e.g. 0x388 must be routed to the OPL2 on a ISA soundcard?

Attention !

Attention folks!

There is a retro PC seller at the St-Michel Flea Market, that is moving out of Montreal in a few months!

They are looking to sell off all of their inventory before moving, I wrote a short blog post on some of the interesting items I saw at their stand. There could be a chance they do shipping but I can't speak for them.

In 1986, Global (famous Japanese zipper+ maker) created their own PC system: FACE16. I've been trying to find more info on this system online, but to no avail.

I've found photos from one Japanese blog, with no replies from the blog owner. I've also gotten information back from YKK Global, but it was relatively generic ("standard parts... office use")...

I appreciate any info on this, thanks!

A beige coloured, rectangular shaped computer. From Top to bottom, right to left, system port details: Slot 3, covered Slot 2, covered Slot 1, open with HARD DISK SCSI? connection port, SIO = 0, SIO = 1 Slot 0, open with S, RUN LED lights; RESET button or switch?; SIO = 0, SIO = 1 Ground pin; Color video monitor input which appears to be a 7 pin DIN?; B/W video monitor input with similar inputs; SW0 (some kind of circular dial with dates?); SW1, set of dip switches Further, a set of system identification/usage information. For brevity, skipping the Japanese text: YEU-FACE16-IPJ AC100V 50/60Hz 100W CA8911091 (Serial Number?) Finally, AC IN, with three AC OUT plugs above.
A blurry close up of the FACE 16 system setup and powered on. This photo was taken at the YKK Center Park in Toyama, Japan. The system is shown with a standard CRT style monitor, 13-14", green LED for power and two dials under the monitor. The screen shows some kind of software on display, with a blue background and text shown, and some visual imagery of the system components. Underneath the monitor is the FACE16 system itself, however it looks different than the previous images shown in this Mastodon post; This system has two 3.5" floppy disk drives, stacked on top instead of beside each other. Two LEDs, one RED, one unlit. Power button on the bottom left of the system. A keyboard is shown but details such as layout and design are not visible. It appears somewhat low profile.
