Like going to the beach. You start in the shallow waters, and can stay there as long as you like, or keep swimming out into the ocean.

If I want to transcribe every new audio file that appears in a folder on my Mac using (Mac)Whisper and then run the transcription through a LLM using Ollama to clean it up, what are my best options? Do I have to write some Python code myself or is the readymade tools for this?

People on my timeline who use : do you pay for Obsidian Sync, or have you set up some kind of server?

An Obsidian user on Medium recently lost an entire vault to data corruption because of an encryption plugin.

I’m very sorry this happened to them, and that they didn’t have a backup.

Truly, if our notes in Obsidian can’t function without features that exist only in that app, we’ve shackled ourselves to the wall of a prison without a door.

Always have an exit plan! Always backup your work! And never lock all your data with a key you don’t own.

EpiphanicSynchronicity,
@EpiphanicSynchronicity@pkm.social avatar

@ellane @obsidianmd That’s why I posted this feature request on the Forum and explained why encryption needs to be a core feature, because relying on a plugin to handle it is inherently dangerous.

Sadly, it’s only gotten 3 likes in five months, so I don’t have high hopes of it getting implemented.

Question for friends, when do you pivot into multiple vaults?

My main vault has 100s of docs in it now, and most are from my micro blogging and random projects.

This seems to work fine, but it kind of blew up on me while trying to use my iPhone and iPad to take notes and write on the plane.

I re-synced everything sooner than later, and the writing experience was 💯 on the flight back, but it was a no-go on my flights to Pittsburgh.

After listening to @amolith on the @linuxlads I am giving #Logseq a decent go again: I'll try it for 2 weeks and see where I end up. I wrote in my Bullet Journal once this month, so I can't be worse than that. I am using my #Obsidian folder already set up with #Syncthing between devices, and it seems fine with that.

Obsidian lasted... not long, but I think I was trying to be too rigid with it. So I'll try not to be so much this time.

Mon expérience après 4 ans d’Obsidian

Article

More boggling at the .

One of the sample tests I just took was like "which of these is a defense mechanism" [a psychoanalytic thing]. I answered and got it wrong.

So I read my writeup about it to see why I missed it. It wasn't there. ...Huh, did I just forget to add it?

Turns out stuff online sometimes shows as few as 5 defense mechanisms or as many as 32. Which one is the canonical list? Who knows.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

Love Obsidian, but for the past 2-3 weeks it would freeze and get slow.
TIL

  1. Themes and plugins must be upgraded separately from core
  2. iCloud appears to not automatically download all files, or quietly reverts some files to cloud only, making indexing and search in obsidian super slow
3.Pages with large markdown table with broken formatting can cause Obsidian to become unresponsive for over a minute each time you try to open that page. Suspect this is a bug?

I didn't used to be a "militant" user, but I've been bitten too many times by companies with . For example, DAW, - both companies that decided to say fuck you to perpetual licenses. Now, I try to avoid any proprietary application. I recently went looking for a good notes app and everyone loves . As soon as I saw it was closed source, I noped out and settled on . These companies will eventually fuck over customers so I won't waste my time.

I hated the idea of at first. I thought it was going to add complexity to my vault. This impression was worsened by the many Youtubers who were showing me their souped up Obsidian systems. Now I'm glad I took the trouble to learn - Dataview can resurface Notes that I've completely forgotten about and automatically list Notes I've made.

I like Dataview now, but I doubt I'll use it beyond ordering my vault from utter chaos to manageable mess. 😆

A Pattern Language is one of my favorite books, and this abridged hypertext version by zenodotus280 is incredibly fun to explore with

The book explores humanism in design patterns at every scale from the layout of cities down to how you should choose chairs

zendotus280 did the hard work of linking patterns to each other which makes it possible to easily traverse the text across many more dimensions than you can flipping pages

Importing feeds into Obsidian with Simple RSS!

If you want to archive your Mastodon or other app/site feed posts into Obsidian as separate post entries, I wrote a post about how to use the Simple RSS plugin to do that. I cover Mastodon and Grav RSS feeds. I've done the best I can do for now with instructions and a big thank you goes out to simple rss dev Monnier Antoine for being super helpful.

So happy I took the time to learn #Dataview. It's going to be revolutionary for my vault. It'll help me create main topic pages to keep track of my notes. I used to manually link every note to a "MOC" but I kept forgetting and found it tedious. This is going to be a "leave it and let grow" thing, and it suits my #ADHD brain immensely lol.
And how great it is that the
#Obsidian anticipated our annoyance with YAML and come up with the properties feature? Genius.

@secupriv@mastodon.nl avatar

@liztai Your dataviews wil evolve and that might be a challenge when you have dataviews in your templates that you then want to update as well.

My solution to that is to put a snippet in the template that loads the another note (call it a where the actual Dataview lives.

The code to load that other note:

dv.span(await dv.io.load("/full_path_to/note.md"))

Works like a charm and it makes life much easier.
