Last December we published a paper in the "Datasets and Benchmarks" track at NeurIPS 2023, detailing some of our ideas of how @renku could used for a more sustainable practice around data sets in data science, machine learning and beyond. It was quite well received, earning a "spotlight" acceptance! 🎉 More details here: https://blog.renkulab.io/neurips-2023
Nice to see Cambridge University Libraries urge the use of open (non-proprietary) file formats:
"...we need to make sure the data files can be found and used by anyone at any time, forever. Ideally, this means using open file formats where possible..."
A grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation will further the work of the Open Source Program Office (#OSPO) at UC Santa Cruz (@ucsc) work with UC partners at Berkeley, Davis, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Diego to promote #OpenSource research, teaching, and public service.
🌟 University College Cork and Trinity College Dublin will co-lead the @CoARAssessment National Chapter for Ireland, promoting #OpenResearch practices and responsible research assessment reform. Learn more: 👇

Working on Antarctica (tectonics, ice sheet change, int. with ocean and atmosphere, inter disc. links). Focus on ground-based geophysics (esp. seismology) and compute. Professor of Geophysics at #UTAS#physics#comp_antarctic group, enabling/advocate for research, learning, #diversity in #stem.
As part of the consultation on our “Towards #ResponsiblePublishing” proposal, we're asking researchers worldwide to share their views on the scholarly publishing ecosystem and help us improve it.
Might work well alongside university- based open publishing models. (Shift the money we pay to the corporate publishers over to paying for a publishing platform. Most of the important work is already done by academics anyway - research, review, even editing.)
At 14:00 today in UB4.132, @amcasari and I will be talking about best practices for research in open source ecosystems! Hope to see you there in the Open Research devroom 🚀
I am SO excited about this upcoming @CenterforOpenScience webinar on sharing sensitive qualitative data with the talented Rebecca Campbell, which will be on February 15 at 11am US Eastern!
The Agile Metabolic Health project is supported by UC Berkeley’s Open Platforms for Powering Science and Society initiative, which will use the outcomes and insights generated to develop new #OpenSource platforms to improve data capacity in basic science, human welfare, social justice, and sustainability.
fixed term until 31st July 2024 with the expectation of continuation funding for at least another 12 months
"In collaboration with members of the University Research Committee, the role holder will be responsible for the University’s identification, analysis, understanding and monitoring of Open Research indicators"
Experts at UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco have begun working to improve the treatment of diabetes and metabolic health using a first-of-its-kind #openSource platform with broad societal benefits.
One more reason to avoid Elsevier. I wanted to show a picture from a scientific article in my progress report. This should cost 1,591.01 EUR. Such high prices are hindering science.
Researchers at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology developed an automated laboratory robot to run complex electrochemical experiments and analyze data.
The software component was created in Python (a free, #OpenSource coding platform) that allows the user to connect with Electrolab to perform experiments.
As the ⌛ 29th November survey deadline nears, we warmly encourage all research stakeholders to share their feedback on our 'Towards #ResponsiblePublishing' proposal & shape the future of scholarly publishing!
We're delighted to see so many excellent quality submissions in response to the #EverythingOpen#CfP - which has been extended to this Thursday AoE (anywhere on earth).
What are you thinking of submitting? There's still time!
@FosdemResearch poke @OpenAlex
Would you consider joining us to share your thoughts on how you build, publish and maintain such an incredible #opendata#openresearch dataset?
It would be a pleasure to host a talk about it!
