So, this was released today. My third stamp with Canada Post. Qarlinngua (The pants). And technically my second stamp with a family member in it, as the tiny figure in it is my son Travis. Now for one with Hilary in it.
I’ve very proud of all of these, beyond the cache. They are about my home, and family. And also my family has a long history with the Post Office, 101 years. My grandfather, father, and brother were all postmasters in Roblin. #Nunavut#Arctic#Stamps#philately#CanadaPost
Price of a domestic stamp in a booklet, coil or pane would rise to 99 cents
Canada Post is proposing to increase postage rates in 2024. For stamps purchased in a booklet, coil or pane, which represent the majority of stamp sales, the rate would increase by seven cents, to 99 cents per stamp.
The new rates would take effect May 6, 2024.
Permanent stamps will always be accepted at the current domestic postage price.
The proposed rate changes would also affect other products, including U.S., international letter-post and domestic Registered Mail items. The price of a single stamp for a domestic letter (30 grams or less) would increase from $1.07 to $1.15. When purchased in a booklet, coil or pane, the price would increase from 92 cents to 99 cents per stamp.
A 1-cent postage stamp from 1868 is going up for auction in June, and could fetch up to $5 million. It's one of only two known to exist (the other is owned by the New York Public Library) and features an image of Benjamin Franklin. Its "Z-grill" mark is what makes it particularly covetable for collectors. Smithsonian Magazine explains what that means.

6-cent stamp depicts Sir Francis #Bacon, with "z" in "colonization" reversed. A correct version also exists. Also, Sir Francis Bacon became Lord Verulam, though Lord Bacon is sometimes used. #stamps#philately#stampcollecting
A nice - if simple - design from Thailand Post on today's issue (2023-12-05): National Day 2023, an annual issue. This design features the Thai national flag with yellow flowers from the cassia tree, the national tree of Thailand. #philately#Thailand 🇹🇭

50th anniversary (October 5) of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. Founded in Fontainebleau, France, with headquarters in Gland, #Switzerland. Has the membership of 1400+ organizations in 170 countries. #stamps#philately#stampcollecting
I'm having lots of fun getting into #Philately, learning as I go. I'm a complete newbie, but even I suspect this is not the Ideal way to store your stuff @philately#Philately
Another collectible from the Thai Stamp Exhibition: souvenir sheet of 140th Anniversary of Thai Stamp Commemorative Stamps. These stamps (issued 2023) feature the first Thai (Siam) public stamp issue in 1883 - nice "stamp on stamp" topic and my favourite issue this year. #Thailand 🇹🇭 #philately
I don't know where I got this, but I absolutely love this album. Looks to be mid 50s, in great shape and completely empty. I'm considering filling it as a nice little project. @philately#Philately#PostageStamps#Stamps
I'm thinking of starting a new #stamp collection: #Germany, but I'm looking for a few good books that cover the topic and are suitable for a relative beginner.
Any tips? #philately@philately#PostalStamps
#DungeonsAndDragons commemorative stamps (10 designs) are set for release by #USPS in 2024. Also planned: a gorgeous collection of #AnselAdams B&W photos (16 designs).
BTW, most of the U.S. #stamps planned for 2024 were announced back in October. These included some James Webb #Space Telescope images, a 10-design #UndergroundRailroad issue, interesting round "pinback button" stamps, a four-scene flower and #hummingbird release, and five adorable #horse stamps.
Earlier this week, a 24-cent stamp sold at auction for $2 million. Smithsonian Magazine has the story of how the "Inverted Jenny" was made, why it's so rare, and the incredible places some of the stamps have visited, from the Postal Museum in Washington to the inside of a vacuum cleaner.
An interesting stamp issue from Thailand 🇹🇭 this week: 140th anniversary of the first public stamp issue in 1883 (the Solot Issue). A classic for "stamp-on-stamp" collectors. Thailand have done variations of this twice before. This is the nicest of the issues. Issued 20-09-2023 #philately#Thailand
