Just a quick thought: #PiHole next to #HomeAssistant on the same Raspberry Pi 4 or should I get a second one for this?
Home Assistant is directly flashed as Home Assistant OS. So is this even possible? And if I get a new Pi, which one would the best option to just run PiHole?
If I go the route with multiple Pis, I would like to have a machine that does one thing and no plans to do more than that one thing.
Put the entire household on the pihole, hope I don't get too many complaints, LOL (maybe overkill for the entire household, but... worth the experiment) #pihole#cybersecurity
I'm toying with the idea of setting up #pihole at home. I've already got a Pi4 running some plex software for in home streaming, so I figued I could tack onto that. Outside of initial setup, can anyone give me an idea of how much possible tweaking may be needed for personal family use? Any big things to note before starting? I use as much adblocking layers as I can already and simply despise ads.
Geek achievement unlocked: finally installed a #pihole and pointed a few machines at it (not all... just the desktops) so I STOP GETTING THOSE STUPID TEMU ADS.
I'm trying to figure out how to stop having to unblock the pihole, in order to bypass cookie consent alerts. I think this is a devious new attempt by the advertising brigade to ensure that adverts are played, but more and more cookie consent blockers are not working properly if you've got an adblocker, and as I've got one at the...
I am still trying to set up a Pi-hole for me. One option is obviously a RPI, but for a simple DNS resolve the 4B is way too overpowered and therefore overpriced imo.
I already found the NanoPi NEO3-LTS and NanoPi R2C Plus very fitting, although I don't like the limited or just nonexistent software support.
Any recommendations for a small, cheap, power efficient SBC with at least Gigabit Ethernet, a SD-Card slot and USB-C for power?
Got my first #RaspberryPi (Pi 4 Model B) and put it together last night. I was so excited to start it up and then realized…I was missing the mini hdmi cables. 😩
So…that arrives tomorrow. Thought about going headless with it and just connecting via SSH but I do want to see the Pi OS.
I think for my sanity I'll just block the whole damn pointless and stupid domain in #PiHole directly so I don't have to even think about it. the dot zip domain is literally one of the most incompetent tld's I have ever heard about and it only gets worse. https://youtu.be/V82lHNsSPww
Thinking about my (still WIP) #PiHole setup. AFAICT, the guide for #DoH with #cloudflared at https://docs.pi-hole.net/guides/dns/cloudflared/ only coveres using DoH between the PiHole and the upstream DNS provider (e.g., Cloudflare, Google, etc.). But if I want to use DoH between my browser and my PiHole, I seem to need another DoH Proxy, which makes request flow like this:
incoming on dns.ljrk.org:443 (traefik reverse proxy)
forwarded to 127.0.0.1:80 (DoH Proxy #1)
upstream classic DNS resolver on 127.0.0.1:53 (PiHole)
forwards any non-blocked requests to 127.0.0.1:5053 (DoH Proxy #2)
upstream DoH DNS resolver such as 1.1.1.1:443/dns-request
Of course, most PiHole setups are local and I'll probably end up opening dns.ljrk.org only through a #TailScale/#HeadScale#VPN, but my browser may still prefer to speak DoH instead of RFC1035. I'm also not sure how #DNSSEC plays into this...
I'm back to using pi-hole, the best way to block ads and trackers in the internet. And contrary to the name, you can using it on any computer, not only a Raspberry Pi! #homelab#selfhosted#pihole
I'm thinking of putting together a #homeserver Things I want to have are #nextcloud, media streaming and some #pihole-type filter. What would be a #cheap system to start trying things out? What about the OS? #CasaOs looks gorgeous, but any recs welcome!
