Don’t know that I’ve ever had a proper (traditional) daiquiri. How have I missed out on this deliciousness for so long?!?!

James,
@James@woof.group avatar

@seismic007 if I am introducing someone to as a base spirit and not just "that thing you mix with coke at the bar" or "spiced rum", a traditional is what I go to. Rum, lime, simple. Perfection.

It's also a great way to test different rums and get a sense of their unique flavors and how they might work in a more complex cocktail.

Try a daiquiri made with some funkier rums, like Smith and Cross! Or with a nice smooth rum like a Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva 😍

Wow. The recipe that won Punch’s blind Eggnog tasting uses a split base of rum, cognac, and bourbon. I’ve done that for many years, more surprisingly though the recipe calls for PF 1840 and Old Grand Dad. I’ve been using Bonded Old Grand Dad, PF 1840, and OFTD for several years now. I also use a mix of whole milk and heavy cream. My recipe has minor differences, and I don’t pre batch, but otherwise they’re very similar.

Andy probably has serious moments, but we follow him for his humour. Haven't seen him in a year, since I left Twitter, but I saw this on Instagram.

I am back on this here thing with a new outlook and attitude. I just want to talk about the good I listen to, the good I read, the good I play, the good I cook & eat, the good I drink, and the good I enjoy.

I may also indulge in some other nerdy hobbies once in a while.

Quick & dirty way to make a dark & stormy.

  1. Fix yourself some ginger syrup. Blend 1:1 parts sugar and water with an immersion blender. After its cleared up, add 1 part fresh ginger root (equivalent in weight to water or sugar) and blend it until it's deep yellow and smooth-ish. Drain through a cheese cloth.
  2. Fix the drink:
    Pour 0.75 Oz lime juice and 1-1.5 Oz ginger syrup into a longdrink glass/tumbler. Add ice and mix a bit. Then add 2 Oz of dark rum (I recommend Havanna Club 7 or Plantation Original Dark. A dark coruba will also do). Do not mix! Top up with club soda (carefully add it on the side of the glass) and garnish with mint sprig or candied ginger and a lime wheel.

Done.

The beautiful Silver Sands of Morar, near Morar south of Mallaig, plus views of the Small Isles of Eigg and Rum. The origin of the name 'silver sands' is obvious. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/morar/silversands/index.html

    @shibashecurity A good rum can slap just as hard as whisky. If you see a higher strength Foursquare online or in a physical shop, I can highly recommend them.

    Forged by fire and scoured by ice, fifteen miles from the mainland and across the glittering sea, the Isle of Rum strikes an unmistakable silhouette against a summer sky. The largest of the Small Isles, a small archipelago of islands off the west coast of Scotland which include Canna, Eigg and Muck, Rum is sharp and diamond-shaped.

    This is what it looks like from Skye.
