All heart tissue is not made the same. The left ventricle is commonly considered the most important during development and for blood flow and is at most risk of disease and disorder.
Using stem cells, Imperial College London scientists have made a method to specifically develop left ventricle heart muscle cells for general medicine testing and disease treatment studies.
Sir David Attenborough turns 97 today. He's hosted so many great nature programs, but I think we can all agree that his finest moment was in the BBC's "Life of Insects," when he seduced a male cicada on-camera by imitating the wing-snapping sounds of a lovelorn female.

Lange habe ich drรผber nachgedacht, nun ist es so weit: #psychoSoph bekommt eine #KoFi-Seite, auf der ihr den Comic unterstรผtzen kรถnnt! โจ Was gibt es dort? ๐งต
Iโve been thinking about it for a very long time and here it is: #psychoSoph has a #KoFi page now where you can support the comic! โจ What waits for you there? ๐งต
You can just follow me, give a one-time tip (or every time a chapter goes online) or even get a membership where you support me monthly. ๐ง With this you help me keep the psychoSoph website running.
How do people with #populist views of #science inform themselves and communicate about it? ๐ฌ
In our new study, @mss7676@j_metag and I find: Science-related populists prefer #TV and social networking sites, and are more likely to comment scientific content online. But they donโt avoid journalistic media in general, so they donโt โdisconnectโ from science ๐ชข๐ฌ

End of the road for this part of our #MetropoleOrkest x #SolarOrbiter tour, with our fifth & final show in Tilburg ๐ณ๐ฑ
We saved the best for last & the kind audience gave us another standing ovation ๐๐โโ๏ธ
Itโs hard to express what an honour & privilege it has been to work with such lovely, talented people: I learned a lot & hopefully managed to share some of the wonders of the universe too.
This is the best hour-long rant a #physics PhD ever delivered about #stringtheory and #SciComm while simultaneously playing Binding of Isaac in order to help stay focused on her talk

Soundcheck in the Tilburg Concertzaal for the last of our #MetropoleOrkest x #SolarOrbiter shows in the current run tonight ๐๐ฐ๏ธ๐ถ
Has been an enormous pleasure & privilege working with the orchestra & all the crew, along with conductor Jochen Neuffer, co-presenter Twan Huys, director Dirk de Bekker, & producer Friederike Darius ๐
I really hope we get to do more โ it has been very special ๐โโ๏ธ
Had the pleasure of speaking with students at the University of Guelph about science communication today.
Back in the olden days when I was in grad school (the first round), #scicomm wasnโt usually considered a viable career path. Many scientists blogged under pseudonyms so they wouldnโt be penalized before tenure.
20yrs later, Iโm delighted as new generations of young scientists embrace the constantly changing media environment, including on #Mastodon.
