Ate at a new local restaurant last night right before changing my son's Dexcom. Did our best guesses nutritional info, and did a finger stick an hour into the change: 120. Was worried about him going low but he kept saying he felt fine.
Numbers come in on the Dexcom an hour later and he's over 400. Overcorrected trying to bring him down and a couple hours later it was time for juice. Sat up and watched that fearing it would cause him to go high again, which it did
Struggles with #Dexcom G6/G7 on Android, Pixel 7 with latest updates....for months... after the upgrade to Android 14....it developed a frequent, intermittent signal loss error. We even bought a receiver, which worked very reliably. Went thru many sensors without any difference.
In Feb, Dexcom updated their documents describing the necessary settings. Reviewing that, I found that the location permission for the app was set to "allow", but not "always allow"...
In honor of discovering that I've apparently had a Wikipedia page for a few months, I decided to tell the story of why I'm not a Wikipedian (a story I told Jimmy Wales lol) and this seems like the kind of thing that might interest you all: https://www.instagram.com/p/C5i1r68Lyk-/
Though TL;DR if you don't want to watch a four minute video, my attempt to increase coverage of children's literature on Wikipedia was met with exactly the kinds of gatekeeping acrimonious jerk behavior you might expect.
Also one of my favorite things about the Wikipedia page for me is that it mentions I have type 1 diabetes. (Which is totally fine to include, it's in a news article about my research!) Representation for the win. :) #t1dhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casey_Fiesler
I had a spare #CGM#sensor, so with my SO we now get to see the power of non-#diabetic#pancreas in action. And holy fuck, 100g of sweet bun, so I'd say 50g of carbs, +5 from milk in coffee and +5 from a biscuit, and half an hour after that they peaked at 125 mg/dL, and after another half an hour were barely above 100.
Meanwhile me after about 70g and a bunch of insulin and a bit of exercising and I failed to not go above 200 about 2h after. #diabetes#t1d
I normally request g6 overpatches from Dexcom, the 10 free ones per month they are willing to mail you. This time, I'm ordering some from Amazon as I am weary of having to remember to do this every couple months; I just want to keep a stockpile on hand.
It costs ~$70 to produce a year’s supply of insulin. Yet, the average annual cost of insulin went from $2,864 in 2012 to $5,705 in 2016 to $18,000 in 2024. That’s a 25,714% markup.😳
That isn’t inflation. It isn’t supply chain issues. It is 100% corporate greed. #MakeInsulinFree
many insulin users are diagnosed as children. i was 3. an immunodeficiency caused my pancreas to fail when i contracted chickenpox. it's true that american foodstuffs have waaay too much sugar, often in unexpected products. but type-1 is always insulin dependent, and not caused by sugar in the diet.
but all the more reason insulin should be free. but you know we only love fetuses here, not actual living children. 😮💨
At lunch at Loblaws-owned T & T, but got a recurring prescription transferred to online pharm MedNow. Much lower dispensing fees & co-pays than Shopper Drug Mart.
So I managed to keep a few bucks out of Weston's hands. Baby steps.
@human3500 drug plans don't cover 100% of the costs. Usually only 80%. The co-pay is the rest. The co-pays on a years worth of #t1d diabetes for my dependent will be about $5000.
In November 2007, I get a shock diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes #t1d. Meanwhile, the Read/WriteWeb server struggles to cope with our rapid page view growth. The kid's phone got wet so we all had to scramble to switch to the omnipod pdm. It's so much harder to do when you're rushing to get back to work and school than when it's a leisurely change for a new device.
All this new diabetes technology makes things better and safer. But it has its downsides, too.
Looks like I need to rejigger my delivery profile. Had an unexpected rise before I ate anything this morning, but after my usual (well handled) dawn phenomenon. #T1D
I do have some conditions with overlapping symptoms which will complicate the process, like cptsd, juvenile onset #t1d with resulting brain damage, neuropathy, anxiety, etc
Also, I'm poor and live in rural north California (I'm on medi-cal, aka partnership insurance)
Any tips, shares, etc appreciated. Good luck everybody!
I'm a Canadian crafter trying out Mastodon. I love knitting and cross stitch and many other crafts. I'm also into gaming, and I'm a Type 1 Diabetic. I have several fur babies, and a human family as well. Nice to meet you! 💙 🧶 🧵 #introduction#crossstitch#knitting#t1d#gaming
#T1D oddity. Counting carbs lodges weird equivalencies in your head such as a chipotle burrito with chicken, rice, corn salsa, and other stuff is roughly the same carb content as a pint or more of ice cream.
