Never forget the fascist exception. The simple truth is that fascism is not politics, or even a fully-fleshed out ideology. It's more or less a statement of murderous/violent intent. So yeah solidarity, and compassion, and cooperation, and mutual aid, and power to the people, and be kind to each other, and everyone should get a say, and love thy fellow man - except fascists. Because fascists are ink in the milk and will eventually destroy everything and everyone you love. Not complex.

@TexasObserver @josephinelee This case has been appalling from day 1! What is wrong with America?!?! When your county has arrested 76, 10-11 year olds in 2.5 years, that’s bad. This is so bad. Solitary confinement for a young child is cruelty & abuse!

Mine was in a live shooter situation in 2nd grade. Nobody killed but they hid for several hours while there was a standoff. Mine was alone under her desk. She was 7. 😵‍💫 Now when they do shooter drills, she wants to 🤮. This is our kids’ America. 🤷‍♀️

Someone asked "Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?"
Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England, wrote this magnificent response:
"A few things spring to mind.
Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem.
For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace - all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed.
So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.
Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing - not once, ever.
I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility - for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman.
But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is - his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.
Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers.
And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults - he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.
There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface.
Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront.
Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul.
And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist.
Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that.
He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat.
He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.
And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully.
That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead.
There are unspoken rules to this stuff - the Queensberry rules of basic decency - and he breaks them all. He punches downwards - which a gentleman should, would, could never do - and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless - and he kicks them when they are down.
So the fact that a significant minority - perhaps a third - of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think 'Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:

  • Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.
  • You don't need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.
    This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss.
    After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum.
    God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid.
    He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart.
    In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws - he would make a Trump.
    And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clump-fuls of hair and scream in anguish:
    'My God… what… have… I… created?
    If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set."

@Paulos_the_fog This is the perfect description of him. Perfect. To a tee. I’m American. I agree 100% & it’s completely unfathomable that so many idolize him. People I’ve known 40 years are enamored, literally to death. My best friend of 35 years turned Trumper & died of Covid for him. I can put myself in just about anyone’s shoes & see perspectives. Not this one. It is massive cult behavior. People who think the govmnt is corrupt are fully on board with a blatant corrupt govmnt. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️😵‍💫

If you are a or really anyone working in a and a patient asks you to wear a mask, the correct response is to WEAR A FUCKING MASK. You wouldn’t walk into the OR without a mask. You wouldn’t walk into a bone marrow transplant kid’s room without a mask. Don’t be a dick to people who are high risk for respiratory diseases.

@mcnado I have a nurse that comes to my home monthly to infuse my immunosuppressant medication. We do that in my small bedroom. My teen & I have a very complicated genetic condition. We always wear masks (N95s). My nurse is an antivaxxer. Every month… “Do you want me to put a mask on?” “Yes, please.” She only uses surgical masks & complains the entire hour how she can’t breathe & pulls the mask down under her nose, & away from her mouth then gasps breaths. 🤦‍♀️ My PCP refuses entirely.

@mcnado @DEDGirl I agree. 👍 When Covid first started, I had a central line for 24/7 IV nutrition. I got septic. I was in the hospital, sleeping in my N95. A night nurse came to round & I woke up & she WASN’T WEARING A MASK!! I immediately demanded she leave my room & not attend to me again. I filed all the formal complaints!! Why be in hospital if you’re going to jeopardize sick people?!?!

Health is one of the ways that Americans are on their own. Do NOT listen to the CDC, the government at large, your healthcare provider, the people in the hospital or the random fucks you know who are telling you it's okay to walk around giving people covid and that getting covid is no big deal.

My teen & I have a very complicated, systemic, genetic condition requiring every type of specialist & constant appointments. Having to advocate for both of us against all of this is literally killing me. It’s so horrifyingly bad now.

I didn’t even think of Trump when I read this, I thought of the SC & legislators. Trump isn’t the law or a lawmaker, or a judge handing down sentences for crimes. Bibi has done what Hitler and Putin could not: he has gotten the world to aid and abet a genocide. You can blather on about casualty ratios and targeting all you want, but at the end of the day, Israel first pushed Palestinian refugees from North Gaza into South Gaza and now wants to push refugees out of South Gaza. All of this without a guarantee of right of return and with nowhere to go.

@TheRealKat and we have active politicians enacting current policy erasing this history, denying systemic racism, & stopping dei. How can any American learn what we’ve done to poc throughout our history & then get incensed that we do the slightest thing about it.
