Have you ever seen the 👁️element in the mastodon UI and wondered what it meant?

It’s actually quite simple and useful!

When you see the 👁️, it means your webcam is active and streaming images directly to Mastodon HQ, where Eugen (@Gargron ) is watching. He reaches up and gently touches the screen, whispering “what are you going to toot next, my lovely?”

This feature is pretty handy, but if you prefer, it can be switched off simply by clicking 👁️—> 🚫👁️

TIL about zeer pots to keep foods cool without electricity. A large clay pot is lined with sand, and a smaller clay pot sits inside the large, sand-lined pot. Water is added to the sand daily as it is evaporation that keeps the inner pot cool. This works best in arid regions.

I'm starting to think Mastodon needs to have a read more button. Seeing some really long posts flow by my stream. Wouldn't mind having those semi-hidden for post length. Not complaining about those long posts. Keep sharing those dissertations. Just would like to clean up the view a bit.

In case you missed it, each Mastodon server can have its own custom emoji that are visible to everyone but can only be used by people on that server.

They can be still :cate: or animated :rickroll:

If you want a particular custom emoji added to your server, contact your server admin about it.

Mastodon apps normally have a dedicated custom emoji button within the app, which looks something like 🙂 (separate from the keyboard emoji button).
