Earlier today, the first shipments of humanitarian assistance arrived on the shores of Gaza through the multinational humanitarian pier thanks to the tireless work of the U.S. Central Command and our teams at @usaid and @statedept.

@potus Stop arming those that are blocking aid to Gaza and killing children!

I’m a bit stressed putting together my new Kromanski; it has text about voided warranty if the front and back are flipped. It doesn’t have nearly as clear instructions as the SampleIt did. Also, my right side heddle blocks’ little wooden nubs is not really going in. :-(

Can anyone tell if there’s anything obviously wrong so far? Also, on the Kromskis, is the logo generally on the front side or the back side? That might help me orient a bit.

@weaving

KnittingMittens,
@KnittingMittens@mastodon.social avatar

@jonobie @weaving It's not very intuitive! I have an older version, and the kromski logo is on the back end of the loom. Here is a picture of my loom in the process of direct warping. The right side of the picture is the front of the loom.

Looking at my cart at The Woolery, and there is basically endless squeeing.

(The cart is full of Kromski 32" loom and loom accessories. SQUEEEEEEEEEE MOAR here I come.)

@jonobie I have that exact loom (except it was an eBay find)! I'm just on my second project with it but it's great!

You receive a call on your phone.
The caller says they're from your bank and they're calling about a suspected fraud.

"Oh yeah," you think. Obvious scam, right?

The caller says "I'll send you an in-app notification to prove I'm calling from your bank."

Your phone buzzes. You tap the notification This is what you see.

Still think it is a scam?

@Edent I would always hang up and call the bank/credit card company number on my card. The real bank has no problem with that, but scammers would be upset.

On a multi-person video call this morning, we were asked what podcasts we listen to.

I didn't get a chance to chime in but here's my answer:

None regularly. I don't have the time, even at fast playback, to listen to something linear that I could scan much more quickly if it was text.

Podcasters, please post transcripts.

KnittingMittens,
@KnittingMittens@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 @dangillmor Same. Podcasts help me get through tedious things, like doing the dishes, preparing meals, etc.

Can anyone point me in the direction of persons pursuing self-sufficient lifestyles? The could be mental, physical, or other and the self-sufficiency could be from a , or perspective.

Looking for social media accounts, books, blogs, youtube or people doing this kind of thing outside of modern socials that would be happy to have a conversation about it.

@bananamangodog @permacultre @mecfs @actuallyautistic Parkrose Permaculture might be a good YouTube channel. She talks a lot about ableism, and some of her children have various disabilities or are neurodivergent.

I am out of the house today, for the first time in over a week. Two weeks? More? It’s been so long I can’t remember!

Stopped by Tacos Moras on St. Clair West in for a delicious Torta. The bun! So good.

Lightly toasted bun with melted cheese, beans, guacamole, carne asada, onions and cilantro.

@DanielMenjivar @sewing I barely have room for decorations because my walls are covered in pegboards and shelving for extra storage lol. I do have one embroidery project I framed and hung in my craft room

Let me get this straight

A global conspiracy, involving every country on earth for 40+ years in order to spread mind-control chemicals from planes is real

Yet climate change is false

Hey Republicans from The South: ever wonder why no one takes y’all seriously?

@flexghost so are they going to tackle carbon emissions from planes then? Might be a good side benefit lol

Biden is in my hometown. He's just a few blocks away, and it's causing me cognitive dissonance.

I feel like I'm in a war zone. There are helicopters all over. Sirens wailing. So much protection.

But, he'll be unmasked in crowded rooms, since is no risk at all, apparently.

Weird that he's protected in one sort of bubble and not another. A man of his age spending time in crowds unmasked feels like the equivalent of painting a bullseye on him.

KnittingMittens,
@KnittingMittens@mastodon.social avatar

@augieray That is unnerving, especially since someone I know just lost an 84 year old grandfather unexpectedly to covid.

I am looking for a good pattern for a kid’s hat with ear flaps. Any suggestions? I can obviously search Ravelry but if anyone here has any faves I’d love to know. Kid is a 5-6 year old girl who likes princess-y stuff. @knitting

KnittingMittens,
@KnittingMittens@mastodon.social avatar

@consumablejoy @knitting I knit this hat for my son, and it fits really well. I'm not sure if this length of ear flaps is what you're looking for, or if you want the longer style with ties. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/look-out-winter-hat

Finished spinning the next mini for my chunky cowl! But I mostly took this picture so you could get a glimpse of my new rainbow mat. (a gift from my mother in law who probably didn't know why it was on my wishlist!)

The rainbow mat keeps the wheel from slipping on the hardwood floor. I had to upgrade my previous no-slip setup because my kindergartener loves to stop in and treadle as fast as he can.

I mean, sure, I could train him not to touch the wheel, but it's sitting where it is to capitalize on my own urge to touch it when it's within easy reach, so I'd rather lean in to letting him enjoy it. I haven't managed to get him to focus long enough to learn drafting, but he has helped me ply yarns or make messy art yarns on occasion!

@terri @fiberarts My 4 year old loves to spin my wheel too (he calls it a steering wheel because he loves cars lol)!! I'm hoping he'll develop an interest in fiber arts and we can boost my productivity 😂

Hey hivemind, does anyone keep a laser printer for printing out patterns? Is it worth it? I don't like the idea of an inkjet, they always run out of toner. The laser sounds more reliable, although a replacement cartridge is on the expensive side, but I would rather have my own than go somewhere and pay to have stuff printed - for some reason they often get my instructions wrong and print more than I ask for (and then I have to pay for it). Or is it just me? TIA

KnittingMittens,
@KnittingMittens@mastodon.social avatar

@TazPoltorak I have a basic brother black and white laser printer that I bought years ago, I rarely have to replace the toner. But you might want to consider getting a projector instead of a new printer. I recently got one, and not having to print, tape, and trace patterns saves so much time!

It does feel that way sometimes.

KnittingMittens,

While packing I dug up these great Connectivity Gloves, made when I apparently didn’t think knitting individual glove fingers was horrendously painful. I made 2 pairs, I loved these so much. There’s a foldable portion for extra warmth. The fingers are made with a Silverspun conductive yarn (no longer available) so you can use electronics I like this infinitely better than gloves that just have conductive patches on the ends. @knitting @fiberarts (1/2)

KnittingMittens,
@KnittingMittens@mastodon.social avatar

@consumablejoy @knitting @fiberarts I have a pair of gloves I knit a few months ago and I still have to sew in some connectivity thread into the fingers. Wish I had thought of knitting the tips in a connectivity yarn!!
