Hung out with a friend on Sunday. We played around with his collection and my Korg SQ-64 sequencer. I still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing with any of this stuff, but I'm having fun with it, at least! :cat_music: ๐ŸŽถ

We also watched The Fugitive afterwards. He'd never seen it before. Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones both are great in that movie. Plenty of action, completely unpredictable twists, the dam scene, and lots of ham. What's not to love? :ablobcatpopcorn:๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ

@Klumpmeister These are my friend's synths, not mine. (I wish I had room for a dedicated setup for mine!) I played with the model:samples a few months ago and thought it was pretty cool, but haven't touched it since. That said, I believe he used to have a model:cycles and sold it, and I know he's pretty happy with the model:samples, so take that for what you will.

@Klumpmeister My friend sold his MicroFreak right before Arturia released the new sample/granular engines. I know he was a little upset about that, and I believe he regrets selling it to some extent. I had fun when we messed around with it. The MiniFreak looks pretty great, too!

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@Klumpmeister That would probably do it!

Another one that might be worth looking into is the Korg Opsix. Picked one up when they were basically handing them out. You sacrifice the immediacy of knob-per-function for a lot of versatility, if you're willing to learn the menus. V2 added effect operators, including phaser. No analog clock support, though, if that's important.

I had the chance to play again on Saturday. I was playing as The Nekro Virus, a robotic faction that can't research technologies, instead copying them when you destroy an enemy ship in combat. I'm fairly conflict-averse in games like this, which should run against this faction's strengths, but knowing that fighting me makes me stronger worked as a deterrent, too. Unfortunately, while I did get 10 points, I wasn't the first one to 10. Fun game, though!

A close-up of my faction (in red) on the main board. A line of ships runs from my home planet at the edge towards the center of the board.

@coffeentacos Yeah, it definitely can be difficult to set up. We've managed to play it twice now with mostly the same group, with this being the first time we actually played to 10 VP. Both times we started at around 11AM (after setup) and wrapped up at around 7:30 PM or so. Granted, we broke for food and got sidetracked plenty of times, but it's definitely a time sink!

My review of Event Horizon (1997):

https://boxd.it/4jNqiL

God I wish we could get the director's cut for this movie๐Ÿ˜ญ Don't get me wrong, I love Event Horizon, but knowing that a ''better'' version without studio interference existed at some point and never got released, is heart-wrenching๐Ÿ˜ข

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@karlpybara On the one hand, I'd love access to the lost footage. I really love the idea of Event Horizon, even if the execution is flawed.

On the other hand, I'm not sure I would want a director's cut when the director is Paul W. S. Anderson.

Fully donโ€™t understand the attitude that one has to be very good/the best at something to do it.

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@coffeentacos I have struggledโ€”and continue to struggleโ€”with this. For me, at least, it's because I'm terrified of disappointing others and embarrassing myself. I tend to avoid trying new things because I'm afraid of being judged.

I've gotten better about it over the years. Therapy has helped. But that fear of just not being "good enough" still lingers.

LadyMarth01,
@LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

@coffeentacos No, it wasn't insensitive. After all, I think you're right! But that doesn't mean I don't struggle with it.

Although I'm not much of a fighting game player myself, I definitely could still be roped into playing if a friend wanted to play. Especially if it's Super Smash Bros. or War of the Monsters. :blobcat_controller:

@coffeentacos I really, really wish there was a modern remake with a PC version.

    @darth My nearly 17 year old cat had to be put down three weeks ago. I wish I had video like you do, but at least I still have photos. It still hurts, but it does get easier.

    At the very least, knowing it hurts shows just how much you loved them, right?

    Alan Wake 2 is scheduled to come out this October! I remember enjoying the first game years ago, even if the game dragged a bit by the end for me. The atmosphere was great, though, as was the soundtrack. Hopefully this one will be good, too!

    Jaipur could perhaps be thought of as a stepping stone to Splendor. It's quick to set up and an entire game will take less than 30 minutes. The swap-to-make-sets game play is super simple. But probably too simple? My dad could handle it, but there are plenty of other two-players that @peterdrake and I would choose before this one. If the cards weren't so beautiful, and the box so small, I don't know if it would have survived our occasional cullings.

    LadyMarth01,
    @LadyMarth01@mstdn.games avatar

    @htdrake I quite like how simple Jaipur is. I've got other games to fulfill my desire for a brain burning two player game.

    Dog Bone vs Rectangle?

    @ausretrogamer The rectangle may be a classic, but the dog bone looks so much more comfortable to hold.

    It's again!

    Not familiar? is an online distribution service, and on Bandcamp Fridays they waive their revenue share so artists get up to 93% of your purchase. You can download in a variety of formats, and some artists sell CDs, vinyls, and even cassettes or other merch.

    Anyone buy anything? Favorite artist you want to recommend? Let me know! I'm always looking for new music to listen to.

    Some parts have arrived today from Reichelt.de.
    A Noctua fan and a zero.
    It is sporting an ARM cortex A7 quad core CPU and has exactly the same dimensions like a zero 2.
    I'm hoping it can be used for my retro projects.๐Ÿคž

    @root42 Tetris, although I certainly wouldn't be against Dr. Mario. I've never played Columns.

    Hi, I'm Marth aka Madison. I'm a 28 year old trans woman from southwest Pennsylvania, USA.

    I did have an account over on the birdapp, but almost never posted. I'm hoping to be a bit more active over here.

    I like to pretend I like , whether that's PC or , but it's a bit more collecting than playing.๐Ÿ˜† I also dabble in making (mediocre) with guitar and synths occasionally. Also a big fan of old sci-fi and horror . (John Carpenter is the GOAT.)
