So once again, US media gives Trump a pass for calling the left "vermin" while calling out Hillary for "deplorables".

@georgetakei It is a crime in New York state to put any false figures in business statements. He is either ignorant or lying (take a guess).
Also, he talks like all the people working at Trumps properties are going to get fired - wrong again. They will continue to work there when the properties are sold to the new owner. The new owner decides whether they are fired, most likely not.

So I was watching one of Trump's lawyers outside the courtroom in NYC today, where they said something like "in 33 years of practicing law that's the best testimony a client has ever given". And I'm thinking to myself this isn't a stupid person saying this, but it sure reminds me of something ... something ... and ...

    I realized what it is.

In the original "The Twilight Zone" episode "It's a Good Life" (1963), Billy Mumy plays a little boy who is described by Serling as a monster, who can kill anybody, create horrors of all kinds, simply with his mind.

And the adults all live in abject fear of being turned into something horrible and being killed and being "buried in the cornfield."

"It's good that you killed that, Anthony!"

"That's a really fine two-headed gopher you made there Anthony!"

They all said wonderful things about him, for fear of his retribution if they didn't.

One of the most famous of all Twilight Zone episodes. And there it was, in front of a NYC courtroom today. No closing narration by Rod Serling required.

When you measure the Universe's expansion rate to relatively nearby galaxies against the expansion rate in the cosmic microwave background radiation, the numbers don't agree, and their error bars don't overlap. This is the Hubble Tension. A new paper suggests the difference might be even greater by 2-3% (1.1 km/s/Mpc) when you account for the gravitational effect from the Laniakea supercluster, which dominates the gravity in our part of the Universe.

Excellent story on how HBO execs used an army of secret fake accounts on Twitter to harass TV critics who gave poor reviews to their shows

It shows why people shouldn't just write off anonymous comments online as just "trolls" — some of them are coordinated campaigns by extremely powerful people with an axe to grind.

Judge Tanya Chutkan, who had stayed her gag order pending appeal, reinstated it after Trump came after Mark Meadows. She ruled that this “almost certainly” would have been a violation had it been in effect. Now, we know that Donald Trump can’t help himself. He’s sure to violate it again. So the parties will be back before the judge not long from now arguing what the appropriate sanction should be. A big fine? He won’t care. Send him to jail? That will make him a martyr and turn the trial into a circus. It will certainly be interesting to see what she does next time he crosses her.

    MatthewChat,
    @MatthewChat@mstdn.social avatar

@georgetakei I think it would be a good idea to put Trump in jail a day at a time. His followers will eventually get used to the idea of him being in jail without doing too much domestic terrorism if he is in for a day, then two days, then 4, etc.

    Need to point this out.

As a murderer stabbed a Muslim woman named Dr. Talat Khan to death, witnesses report that 17 Texans pulled out their firearms. 17! The murderer stabbed her, stopped to check her pulse, confirmed she was alive, & went back to stabbing her to death.

And 17 "good guys with guns" did nothing.

A reminder that the "good guy with a gun" myth is a propaganda point to sell more guns. It does nothing beyond an anecdote to save lives.

A paradox. The US economy has grown and added jobs at record rates throughout the Biden administration. Wages are rising and inflation is down to 2.4%. The economy is outperforming most of the world.

Yet most Americans think the economy is in poor shape. Mistakenly, they think it was better under Trump.

    Who is to blame?
