So, I live in South East Cornwall, home of the day fishing boats and fowey mussels. You'd think I could get some decent seafood but apparently not. Out of 2 bags of mussels, one was rotten, the other not great, prawns off and squid frozen. No wonder this country has gone down the pan. We can't even do the simple things.

@Wen @Blueeyesscotsman The two local fish markets are now for distribution only. The overpriced fishmonger who claims day caught fish stinks, it really isn't that fresh. The locals can't afford the prices there anyway so have to use the nearest supermarkets (14 to 18 miles away) to buy frozen or defrosted and not chilled correctly imported fish, quite often bought by European companies caught off the UK coast and sold back to us. Another benefit of brexit. GTTO NOW!

Oh! There was a lovely photo of Biden and Obama in snappy bright pink suits on TV yesterday. Do you mean it was fake too? What about the one of Trump wearing bright orange, cleaning the prison floor? Surely that was real.

Okay, maybe I shouldn't joke but all the time there are people like Occupy The Web telling us that AI is a good thing, people are going to think it's a good thing. So long as we take apart everything we read to find the actual truth.

Something I've noticed a lot lately, is that especially Boomer women, but honestly, women in general, don't seem to ask for what they want or need in a direct way. I notice this a lot with my Mom and her friends. Instead of just asking for what they need directly they tell a story, to ask in a roundabout way. For instance, my Mom needed help this morning, and Instead of just saying, "Hey, I dropped my remote, can you pick it up for me?" She tells a one minute story about what happened, no ask, and eventually I get the point, and then suggest that I come pick it up. Or if one of her friends wants to do something like have a birthday party for a friend, they don't say "We should have a party!" They say, It's Sarah's Birthday coming up, you know she likes surprises, what does everyone think we should do?"

I often wonder if this is why older people think younger women are rude and demanding, because younger people often just ask for what they want and need in a more direct way. But also it's probably just straight up sexism, because men are supposed to make decisions, and women are supposed to make suggestions.

What do you all think? Is this just me? Have you experienced something similar?

@RickiTarr I have no idea but love the replies on this thread. It really sets the fedi apart and let's everyone have a valid opinion which opens up wonderful discussions.

Maybe it's a Glaswegian thing but I have always been quite direct, polite but direct. Mum was the same and ma wee granny took no prisoners. It leaves no excuse to get it wrong.

@glynmoody It's something I've been trying to tell people for years and usually getting the 'Well such and such has a brother who's uncle lives next to someone who once went there and they should know' type replies at every step. Even the knife crimes rhetoric isn't what it seems (source, met police officer) there are more people reported and subsequently caught thanks to CCTV, door bell cameras and phone cameras than there were in 1950/60/70/80/90! Quelle surprise.

@JackTheCat it started okay then got filled full of grease. Our nearest commercial cheese is Davidstow and it kind of grabs your jaws and shakes, worth looking out for. Shouldn't cheddar come from Cheddar though? Cornish pasties from Cornwall apart from ginsters Cornish nasties and Scotch has to come from Scotland - of course.

Google is shutting down the Google Pay app because it has been replaced by Google Wallet which is missing features like peer to peer payments.

In classic Google fashion this is a 360° rebrand.

@Wen From care workers, volunteers for charities and drivers, all need DBS checks as a minimum, most need extended DBS checks along with checks into fraud and some medicals including with their mental health, just to do a low paid job. If the politicians needed this, I reckon most wouldn't qualify. Time to background check the politicians and all their staff if you ask me.

So, please correct me if I'm wrong. Corbyn was pro Palestinian and as such antisemitic and booted out of labour. Two more have stood up against Israel in support of stopping the genocide being inflicted on Gaza and they're booted out of labour for antisemitism too. Seems to be a pattern here...I am certainly not antisemitic but I am very much against what Israel is doing to Gaza. Seems that there are two political parties who don't see the difference.

@fkamiah17 A lot of people were automatically un registered if they didn't book an appointment in time. This was at the same /ime that the regular check up reminders stopped and they made the interval between check ups longer. Everyone forgot they were due for a check up as they always got a reminder and suddenly didn't have a dentist, now they can't get one.
