Very interesting how international travel being shut down and places of gathering being closed ended up terminating an entire lineage of influenza. It’s almost like disease spread mitigation steps actually work.

@eo @actuallyautistic that autistic people have no empathy. I would say that my empathetic capacity is crippling at times.

Also that autistic people can’t form relationships. I had a psychologist deny my autism diagnosis because I had a girlfriend. This was absolutely devastating for multiple reasons. This error was soon corrected by a more informed psychiatric specialist.

I feel like such a jerk ordering same day delivery with Amazon on a holiday. But it’s cat food. The cats usual food must have gone bad because they won’t eat it, and I got them new food yesterday because the stuff they were eating made Nikita get fatter.

But Dinah’s throwing up a lot and Nikita is itching like crazy. There’s no throwing up and no itching on their original food, so emergency order.

@sflkirk the fact that we throw away hundreds of billions of dollars of food every year, while people go without enough to eat is probably the greatest failing of our human civilisation. It is doubly damming because it is possibly the easiest to fix.

🇺🇸 US: A physician in Rhode Island was given a formal reprimand by the state's medical board for performing a procedure after testing positive for COVID-19.

According to the letter, Malcolm Kirk, MD, found out he was positive for COVID-19 the evening before the scheduled procedure. "Despite the positive test results, Respondent proceeded to conduct the procedure on the following morning of January 12, 2023, at Rhode Island Hospital," the consent order states.

The Rhode Island Department of Health license database lists Kirk's specialties as cardiac electrophysiology and cardiovascular disease.

My mom has asked me when I’ll stop wearing masks (P95/elastomeric P100) several times. My answer: never. I refuse to just haplessly get sick. This romantic notion that we will eventually inevitably get sick & there’s nothing we can do about it and shouldn’t do anything about it is ridiculous and it needs to be expunged from our society’s collective consciousness.

    @enobacon Nice. Having a clear & intact roadway is just part of the battle. Can’t tell you how many times my bike discovered a giant hole that my spine did not appreciate. The sides of most roadways around here are full of debris & parts from motor vehicles (including glass). Even if you ride in the lane off to the right, it’s helpful to have a few feet of clear space to avoid stuff & oversize trucks etc.

    @micropainter too little too late sadly for those people and their families. Then uncounted are of course all of the folks stricken with various forms of long Covid. I would apply this to many governments, including Sweden, United States and others. The breath and depth of the coordinated effort to allow this virus to run rampant through the population is genuinely & insanely fucked.
