Good quotes from @asb in this @Vice article. Using LLMs to write Wikipedia content strikes me as Ouroboros-ian. https://www.vice.com/en/article/v7bdba/ai-is-tearing-wikipedia-apart

Since some consequences of climate change have trickled up to the bigwigs concentrated in a narrow stretch between DC and Boston, there’s an approximately 48-hour window to remind them that this is only a preview of coming attractions unless we immediately invest in alternatives to the status quo.

At the end of the 48 hours, these arguments will return to their default state of being fringe ideas promoted by woke leftists unmoored from real world concerns like preserving the status quo.

This is an excellent theory from @J12t of what's driving Meta's ActivityPub adoption:

"...the EU’s Digital Services Act is the most likely reason why Meta is implementing ActivityPub in its upcoming Twitter competitor 'P92', and that ActivityPub is really the only game in town that meets Meta’s requirements for interop for 'P92'"

If that's the case, ActivityPub purists better be prepared for a mud-fight with the W3C about standards.

Congratulations to @ChelseaCastellano @ericmbudd and the rest of the Bedrooms are for People movement!

After gathering signatures through the pandemic, suing City Council for blocking them from the ballot, and narrowly losing a city ballot initiative, the state legislature took action and now occupancy limits preventing unrelated people from living together are now illegal across all of .

Usability in the Fediverse has a long way to go, but I will always appreciate how sharing a link to a Mastodon toot isn’t larded up with trackers.

Just like viewing a toot doesn’t require dismissing half a dozen pop-ups about cookie notifications, newsletter signups, video ads, and pushing the mobile app.

“The suburban doctrine dictates that public space be limited, and conflict-free where it exists; that private space serve only as a place of commodity exchange; that surveillance, hyper-individualism, and constant vigilance are good and normal and keep people safe. It is an ideology that extends beyond the suburbs; it infects everything.”

Outstanding article on how the suburbs radicalize people into fascism.

Fascinating example of politically-motivated content moderation on NextDoor.

Local anti-homelessness ballot measure is endorsed by Boulder County GOP.

I post a link about it—referencing the official GOP announcement—and predictable NextDoor conversation ensues.

Post gets then gets reported by the pearl-clutching brigade and taken down for misinformation even though the link to the official announcement is in my post. 🤡

Select “Sky” under the Weather Element drop-down and a forecast time (hours from now). You may need to change default NBM Cycle to get a forecast far enough in the future.
