@MylesRyden@RickiTarr Suzanne Vega, she replied to my offer of borrowing my dogs for a walk on the beach when she played in Auckland a few years ago. I was surprised an artist would reply directly to a fan. We had a good conversation and she seems a genuine, friendly person.
@MylesRyden@RickiTarr Steve Wozniak, “Woz”, Apple co-founder. I invited him to go on a Segway tour in Devonport when he was visiting Auckland on a speaking tour a decade ago. He accepted my offer and was really friendly and open and would talk about anything. We spent the whole morning together and he was very good company. When we parted he gave me his card with his home address and telephone number on, which I thought very trusting. I’ve never dared call him!
Happy birthday #chatgpt one year old today. I asked it to make itself a birthday card (1st attempt top image) and then to give it a steampunk feel (bottom image). Happy birthday !🎂 🎉
Austrian Actress Hedy Lamarr (Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler) was born #OTD in 1914 (not 1913).
At the beginning of World War II, she and avant-garde composer George Antheil developed a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes that used spread spectrum and frequency hopping technology to defeat the threat of jamming by the Axis powers. Though it was never used in wartime, this device is a component of present-day satellite and cellular phone technology. via @wikipedia
@RickiTarr 1985, my MSc supervisor was Richard Bartle at Essex University. He co-authored MUD one of the first online multiplayer games. Only available within JANET (Joint Academic NETwork) at the time which connected UK universities before the Internet. I also used to email my friends in other Universities. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MUD1
I was fortunate to see #tinaturner live in 1984 on her comeback tour in a small venue. That gig remains one of my Top 5 Gigs - she was breathtaking, a truly marvellous performer. This set from the UK's iconic Tube captures the energy of those early shows (watch out for Annie Lennox in the audience).
Did I mention the support band was an unknown Huey Lewis & the News? Oh, and she opened with a Bowie song— truly unique RIP. https://youtu.be/Emvd5Mmx0X8
