@RickiTarr Maybe not really spooky but here's a house in the village of Badolato in Calabria, Italy where the owners have painstakingly conserved a Mussolini quote and portrait on the wall, dating from no later than 1943.
It used to say "È solo l'azione che da' la tempra alle anime" which is from a 1932 discourse of the dictator and means something like "Only action hardens our souls".
For context: in Germany they deleted all visible remains of National Socialism. In Italy... not so.

    @DrALJONES I remember it well. After having been told time and time again that Israel was "the only democracy in the Middle East" we then discovered that that epithet was only applicable to democracies which elect leaders the West likes.

    A lot of talk about the Israel / Gaza war starting on October 7 2023. While this is the case, the IDF did not go in immediately, there was (I think) a good month after before the invasion started, so all the destruction has taken less than six months, if we take the start date of the invasion as when they went in.

    There were incursions in to Gaza, for recon etc.

    "Kost nogal wat". Puik informeren van de kamer, dit. Maar wat kost het als we geen autonoom alarmsysteem hebben en het mobiele netwerk platligt bij een calamiteit?

    Dat het oude systeem "nauwelijks successen gehad" heeft is natuurlijk een briljant argument. Mijn brandalarm heeft tot nu toe 0 successen gehad. Scheelt toch ook weer een paar euro batterijen als ik die weghaal.

    @gvenema @McHollander aan de ene kant praat iedereen over een mogelijke oorlog en aan de andere kant gaan we het 'luchtalarm' weggooien, ten faveure van een web based system. En de vijand staat bekend om zijn hackers. Fantastisch.
