I really need to start tracking the kilometres I put on my running shoes. Had some knee troubles after recent runs and now with new shoes they’re gone.
I noticed HealthFit has a field to track shoes and you can set a default 👍
I guess I’ll know when the time comes and it’ll vary by vendor and model but how many kilometres do you keep your shoes for fellow runners?
@finestructure running the risk (pun intended) of sounding like broken record, minimalist shoes won't have the issue of foam wearing out (there is none). Xero shoes have a 5000 miles warranty on their soles.
And if you adapt correctly, you will reduce the risk of injury.
I know RunKeeper allows you to track mileage per shoe, with the option of managing multiple shoes, if you use that strategy.
Before switching to minimalist footwear, I switched every ~500km, like others mention.
Who among you runs long distance in Vibram FiveFingers? I'm looking for model recommendations. I absolutely love my KSO Evo, and it's the best shoe I've ever run in, but I've found that I can put barely 300 kilometres' worth of training on them before the sole wears through.
@xahteiwi
I know you're asking about Vibram and I'm diverting a little. Since you talk about sole toughness and minimal footwear, have you considered Xero shoes?
I've been training (and walking and everything) solely in them for almost a year now and it has been fantastic.
They have a 5000 miles warranty on their soles.
@xahteiwi I run exclusively in closed shoes, but it really is a personal preference. On my marathon, at the end, I crossed path with a runner, running with their sandals, so it can be done!
Their shoes includes straps (inside the shoe cover, look at black straps in photo) resembling huarache style. (make sense??)
I run in their HFS: https://xeroshoes.com/shop/shoes/hfs-men-clr/. It is in clearance right now because they launched a second version (I’ll let you compare if it's something you're interested in).
Fantastic run this morning! Colder than yesterday (feels like -15 Celsius: the only Team Short I saw had his legs red), and shorter, but similar path. And a gorgeous sun!
I'm also glad to see my heart rate being a bit slower at equivalent paces than before.
That "Zuck apologizes" bullshit makes me so mad. Facebook single handily destroyed our societies. Everything bad about the world today can be traced back to Facebook and he's standing up and saying "I'm sorry." Fuck him.
@Jayslacks
He was alerted by government officials of the impending genocide of the Rohingya people; they wanted moderation. He did nothing because it would have hurt "engagement".
You cannot apologize your way out of that one.
That's one example.
Very happy with my run this morning! Sidewalks were on concrete + small rocks (for grippyness), for the most part. I was relieved!
I realized today that long runs sometimes intimidate me. But I never went on a run so long I couldn't finish. And once I realized that, I was more confident and enjoyed my run more.
There's a recruiter with whom I believe I could probably have good opportunities. But when I contacted him, he told me he now offers services to help people (like updating resumes, stuff like that). I believe this leads to him placing me somewhere.
Is this a new recruiting trend? Should I take his offer? Maybe it's a common practice but the market previously prevented it (too much demand)?
Friday: 170 seconds of plank (new record!), 9 minutes of kettle bells, followed by 6.5 km of #running (-1°C with a windchill of -6°C) in freezing rain.
Made it about 50 metres this morning before turning around to go home and switch to my shoes with the spikes on them. After that, it was pretty smooth, if somewhat noisy (clack, clackity, clack, clackity…) 🤣
Wednesday: 10 minutes of Apple Fitness strength beginner strength training, 10 minutes of Yoga for beginners, followed by 160 seconds of plank, and the followed by 11.1 km of #running (-10°C with a windchill of -17°C).
The two #AppleFitness workouts were nice and easy, and today I learned not to do plank right before going out for a run.
Especially a run in snowy conditions. What a mess out there. 😳

@WTL makes sense, but some plans make me do some kind of strength exercise before the run. Like "foot core" (exercises to strengthen the foot).
Maybe it's not ideal because you get to the point of being sore?
Super happy to be back on a training plan! I dreaded this, to be honest. Just getting out and doing easy run for whatever distance/time was easy for the mind.
But already a progression to tempo last Monday, then strides today and I feel alive!
I am not competing for snow beard, it was not that cold, just a little bit! (-10C, feels like -18C)
Freezing rain is forecasted for #Montreal tomorrow evening... That makes Thursday a nice candidate for a rest day! I will make sure to get my run done tomorrow. I have no idea what the sidewalks/cycle paths will look like the the next few days...
Tuesday: 160 seconds of plank, 8 minutes of kettle bells, followed by 16.8 km of #running (-2°C with a windchill of -6°C), including about 2km of running on the #RideauCanalSkateway (without spikes because I didn't want to carry them in my pockets).
So now my thigh muscles are differently sore for coping with running on ice. 🤣 Also nice to be back on #TeamShorts

@heliomass I laughed at this quote, though:
"Another big advantage to bike paths is that, unlike sidewalks, they're not typically clogged up with debris or double-parked vehicles." It seems I am not using the same paths as the journalist! Hahaha
Good 17km #run this morning. I was well layered for the (feels like) -23C.
A good thing about temps like that is that I have to drink water regularly, otherwise it freezes in the cap and I can't drink anymore! (Which did happen at one point, but melted again, probably due to my body heat).
A thing I realized today is that, to be able to run on a snow-less path, I have to rely on a few cycle paths that I know are cleared. It makes my route “un-improvisable” and I like that less.
What is this witchcraft... ive eaten 2 meals, not super hungry, and somehow still have 900 calories left in my diet for the day (and thats not my break even point, thats my loose 2 lbs a week point).
@freemo could be many things, like being adapted to use fat as energy source. It's much more satiating.
If you used to eat ultra-processed food and are now eating whole foods, maybe you just found back your satiety hormones.
I think if you continue to listen to your body signals you should be good!
I think I've been contacted 4 times today for a contract at Desjardins. #iosDev in #Montreal , if you're looking for work, get in touch! I'll refer you, why not! #FediHire
Nine out of ten women face abuse while cycling, shocking new survey finds
According to the report, “get off the road” was by far the most common form of verbal abuse aimed at women cycling, while taunts of “bitch” and “slut”, unsolicited photos and sexual comments, groping or slapping when stopped at traffic lights, and accusations of poor parenting when cycling with children were also appallingly prevalent.
@ThunderHoneySnow@rvaughnmd I don't know what to say... like I knew that it existed, but to that extent? To that degree of disregard and violence?
My stepson is in (Qc) high school (I don't know to translate to English system) and they just implemented a schedule for the gym, so that some days are reserved for boys, some for girls, and some for trans. My main message was: you're the majority, so shut up and listen. You have no idea what they endure/suffer.
We don't know what we don't know.
