Today I checked off the first of my running goals by strongly finishing the half marathon in the Delaware Running festival. Ironically the marathon winner pulled in just behind me lol. I’m very pleased with my performance. #running
My perception of my running was all over the place this morning. Not after long, I decided to stop worrying about HR zones.
It occurred to me this morning that I might be fighting off a virus: my pace was also off last Thursday. I've been sneezing (only that) and thought it was allergies.
I also decided to change my route, as it was too windy for my taste today. So I left the river & climbed Mont-Royal instead.
I'm still proud of sticking to it and finish my 29km planned for today!
@WTL thanks!
I usually don't care about weather but today I didn't want to fight incoming wind for a few kilometres.
I didn't check the gusts speed but that feels right! Especially in open areas like along the river!
Friday: 97 seconds of plank, 11 minutes of runner's yoga, 10.3 km of #running (13°C! with wind gusts to 40km/hr).
I was really tired this morning. Once I headed out and got running, I was pretty sure I was going to only to 5km, and despite the gusty wind, I cranked out 10km and managed to avoid the worst of the rain.
I do have to have a word with whomever put stairs in the last two KMs (which would be me).🤣
Taken the plunge, ordered my first pair of #altras ... Tips for transitioning from Brooks Ghost to Altra Torin? I'll of course break them in and rotate with the old ones etc.
I'm much more a mid- to forefoot runner on the treadmill now and my feet are just struggling. I've tried new insoles, the shoes are wide fit and only have 180 miles on them so pretty sure it's not that they are already dead. So giving it a go with a different shoe to see if that makes a difference.
@rcheesley any kind of transition in drop should be done progressively: for example, start using the Altra for small runs, then longer, etc. The goal is to strengthen your feet.
Enjoy!
Starting #keto today. I’m kind of bamboozled by the idea of no bread or granola at breakfast. But I have to give something new a go, I feel I can’t go on being so unstable and there’s not much wriggle room in my med regimen #bipolar
I will not lie, I'm done with winter. But winter is not done.
I usually embrace outdoor conditions, but today was a treadmill day. My first, and hopefully, my last of the year. This is not my cup of tea!!
Truth is, this is normal for the season. But because we haven't seen that much snow during real winter time, this stink. And yeah, there was a lot of damage to the trees. We even lost electricity for a few hours in late afternoon. So... brutal is not that far off??
@purplepadma there's a book called "Brain Energy" by Christopher Palmer, MD. He explains why it is a really good idea to use keto to manage our mental health.
There's also https://www.metabolicmind.org/, including a podcast, that goes deep in the subject.
Basically you loose nothing for trying. At least a month, more if you can. It is an adaptation, but so much worth it. Try and see how you feel, your energy levels, your mental health, etc. That kept me going!
@purplepadma it is so powerful, in fact, that some people manage their schizophrenia with it, their ADHD, treatment resistant depression, anxiety disorders, the list goes on.
While I can't speak specifically about being bipolar, I wholeheartedly encourage you to try.
And of course, don't change your meds without your doctor's approval (maybe you don't need to hear it, but I need to say it).
Tuesday: 150 seconds of plank, #AppleFitness yoga for runners, followed by 14.2 km of #running (-3°C with a windchill of -8°C).
Pretty good run. Finished listening to Born to Run 2, and now I'm questioning how I run and the type of shoe. I've solidly been a ~160 step per minute (STM), even at my fastest. I think I'll let this sit and re-read it in a bit to see.
Just been for a power walk in the spring sunshine. Tom has been telling me off for exercising while I’ve got a cold, but I’m thinking that you can’t pause for every minor virus. What does my #running#fitness crew say?
@purplepadma
Running is a stress to your body, so is fighting a cold. You want to keep the overall stress to your body a bit lower than usual.
It means that a too strenuous workout will be detrimental to your cold recovery.
The positive impact running has on your immune system occurs prior to infection, it doesn't work like a cold medicine.
That said, walking or moving gently outside, taking in fresh air, is great!
Weather was all over the place for this morning's long run! Sometimes very windy, sometimes sunny... but hey! That's spring...
I was very happy to go on new paths this time! I went along the Lachine Canal from the Old Port for a few km.
Also, something utterly bizarre happened.
Somewhere downtown, some walking stranger was walking towards me and asked me a question.
I assumed he was a tourist looking for directions. Even though a runner is not the best candidate to ask, I stopped anyway.
No, he asked me if I wanted to go to church!!
I simply said no and resumed my run.
What did he expect??
50th birthday today. I wish I had some hard-earned wisdom to share, discovered in so many laps around the sun. The truth is I’m still figuring things out myself.
First 10k and my PB so far. My net time was 01:02:12, i.e. a pace of 6'13"/km
My best training time so far has been 6'25"/km in 9 km, so I'm satisfied with my performance!
People cheering while passing by is a great motivational boost.
@GrangeBlanche@s1m0n4 ouin, dans mon cas je pense qu'à chaque course je m'inscris à 2 autres... un moment donné les mathématiques additionneront pu! Hahaha
@GrangeBlanche@s1m0n4
Haha
Hahahaha my watch telling me it's time to stand after a 23.2 km run... bug off!!! I need to sit to eat and drink coffee. Don't worry the kids will have me stand up real quick!
