In some countries, sausage is a big part of the culture. It is clearly the case in Iceland and Norway, although others will likely claim to have more of an ownership to it.
But what is your favorite? I will list a few options, but I am sure you will have options I have never heard of or tried and I would like to know what I am missing!
The Icelandic hot dog is a big deal and a hot dog stand is one of the more popular restaurants in Reykjavík! Typically served with ketchup, mustard, raw onion, fried, dry onions and remoulade.
Norwegian hotdog. Typically served at a gas station. Similar condiments as in Iceland. Fan favorite is cheese sausage wrapped in bacon and shrimp salad.
Danish sausage with bread. Instead of a hot dog, the typical Danish sausage is served with a side of short bread, ketchup and mustard.
Polish sausage or Kielbase. Large sausage with plenty of taste. Side of bread and condiments.
Bratwurst. Fried German sausage. Typically served with bread, ketchup and mustard on the side. A lot of variations, though, including curry wurst.
English pork sausage. Often served with breakfast.
ICQ is closing down. It was really at its height in 2000 and that is when we integrated ICQ into Opera. We made a small (5k) client and it worked really well.
AOL had purchased ICQ and they were concerned about MSN taking users from them by connecting to their service, so they stopped supporting 3rd party clients. We contacted them, to see if they would make an exception for us, but they did not.
They said that if we removed our 5k client, we could maybe discuss bundling their client, but it was bigger than Opera, so that was not going to happen.
@jon Another perfect example of companies ruining an experience by trying to lock you into their ecosystem. Makes me love #Vivaldi even more than I already do.
@jon This was to be expected. First AOL dug a grave for the messenger, and now MailRU and VK have started doing everything to lure and bury ICQ in that grave. ICQ will finally be allowed to die in peace after all the bullying with unnecessary features and silly parodies of Telegram and WhatsApp
"As you use your PC, Recall takes snapshots of your screen. Snapshots are taken every five seconds while content on the screen is different from the previous snapshot. "
This is being marketed as a way to find back to stuff you have seen before. I think it will make cool demos and might be useful at times, but I think the cost is likely (much) higher than the gain.
Generally we have found that whenever we get functionality based on data collection, you have to ask what that data is also used for. Likely that is the real use case.
Results on my #survey about trackpad tap to click.
114 responded.
65% enable tap to click and love it!
29% disable tap to click.
6% had tap to click enabled and hate it!
So about two thirds prefer tap to click.
Personally I would argue that it should be off by default, but I belong to the last group. I was finding that I was having a lot of issues with my trackpad and most went away when I changed the setting. I still have an issue at times that clicking sometimes leads to right clicking.
I have been using trackpoints for years, so I guess I am rather used to an experience with clear button clicks.
I have been using Thinkpads for years and been using Trackpoints. I love the technology, but we getting a bit of strain in my fingers, so wanted to try something else, so using a laptop with a touchpad instead. Finding that I kept clicking things by mistake. Thought there was something wrong with my laptop, but then found there was a setting for clicking things my mistake and it was called "Tap to click" and a similar one for right clicking. Both were on by default.
I guess I am one of those that prefers to click when I want to click and not have a slight touch of the touchpad register as a click. The touchpad has to differentiate between clicking, scrolling, moving, etc., so having everything with the same level of pressure seems likely to lead to mistakes.
That would not fix my issue, which is basically clicking when I am trying to scroll. Scrolling means touching the pad with two fingers and dragging your fingers across the pad. I guess the timing needs to be just right so that this does not get seen as a click.
Generally I find things that rely too much on timing to be PITA.
I did a survey to check how many of you have used one of my browsers, Opera or Vivaldi, with Vivaldi being my current browser company and Opera being my old one.
A lot of you shared your story and that is much appreciated.
1061 did the survey.
61% had used both Opera and Vivaldi.
15% had used Opera
12% had used Vivaldi
11% had never used either.
Thank you all for joining in. I hope those of you that are not using Vivaldi, will give it a try.
I guess it is a question of learning a few of the tricks. Some suggestions:
Only show direct mails in the unread folder. Hide custom folders and mailing lists.
Move important mailing lists into the important folder. Close the other folder and only click the parent folder to see what is inside.
Learn to use the view toggles. Use different settings for different folders, depending on what makes sense. I often hide unread mails to only show new ones, for example.
Use keyboard shortcuts, such as T to view a thread and E to view the contact.
Undo is your friend. If you mark a mail as read, use Undo to bring it back.
Personally I queue mails for later sending. I guess it is old school undo sending mail...
Prefetch all mails. That means all the mail gets indexed.
Search is a function you should expect to use a lot. It is fast. Thus you can spend less time organizing your mail.
@jon I tried setting up Vivaldi Calendar yesterday. It seemed to recognize all of my CalDav events fine. The problem is that it does not seem to sync events back.
So now I created a few events that do not reflect in my web calendar nor on my phone. 😢
I have been building browsers for 30 years now. First Opera and now Vivaldi. My estimate is that more than 1 billion have used one of my browsers or both. Have you?
@jon@Vivaldi i'm still waiting on rss features within andoid vivaldi... that would be nice, espacially, if this is in synch with Desktop vivaldi... :mastophant: and this iS progress for me ...
This month it is 30 years since I started working on browsers. April 1994 is when Geir and I started working on the Opera browser. We founded the company a year later.
Initially I made the UI, while Geir did a lot of the core.
Since that time I have dedicated myself to making the Web live up to its potential. First at Opera and now at Vivaldi.
If you ever used Opera and you have not tried Vivaldi, I invite you to give us a try!
If you never used Opera or Vivaldi, you are invited as well!
@AAKL@jon@Vivaldi I have a 3 year old mid level Android with 90 tabs open in Vivaldi and its running super fast, zero crashes and almost everything renders perfectly. It is weird how well it works plus you can give the ceo and devs hell here on Mastodon and they will listen. Dope company.
@jon Crypto mining - a prime example of human stupidity: short-term selfish advantage at the expense of long-term, most important goals. Highest appreciation to the Norwegian Government for this plan.
