I haven’t encountered a single vegetable-centered dish at any of the Thai, Japanese, Malaysian restaurants I’ve visited in LA. It is possible to eat differently from the rest of the world (re a conversation a few days ago about always having to order veggies)

(To be clear, I agree everyone should eat veggies if they want! But also that, there are many cuisines which simply aren’t vegetable-centered)

(I had a very large raw papaya salad, lots of fiber but also enough chilli to kill a bear)

@skinnylatte @skinnylatte My understanding is that most of the world’s population can’t digest dairy anyway! It’s some kind of weird genetic mutation, if I recall.

@skinnylatte Not surprised at all. Most of the North American food supply is severely altered. But we’re all supposed to accept it as normal.

mculbertson,
@mculbertson@mas.to avatar

@skinnylatte Yes! Back when I was a broke high school student, I processed lots of E6 in the bathroom. And mounted them with the cardboard mounts that sealed with a household iron.

I need to start again with C41.

In the Seattle area for the week, so we used our Sunday for a day trip to Vancouver, BC.

Stumbled across Mount Vernon, WA on our return, which is apparently where a lot of tulips are grown to harvest the bulbs.

The sheer volume was astounding.

@zachleat GA4 is just a hellscape.

In the previous version, I could get stakeholders almost anything, quickly.

Now there’s 28 roadblocks in the way of the most simple stats.

Don’t even get me started on the UI.

I’ve been using GA for 15+ years, and now I think I just want to be done with this shit.

A few thoughts on color printing.

I spent most of last year learning to print black and white, and color, in both the darkroom and on inkjet.

I think that color darkroom wet printing, if you have access to it, is stunning. However the time involved means that I would only do it for the best photos.

Once you dial in settings on an enlarger, and get it right, you can print MANY prints very quickly. The paper and chemicals are also cheap compared to inkjet.

mculbertson,
@mculbertson@mas.to avatar

@skinnylatte I’m no expert, but there used to be just two kinds of indoor lighting. Tungsten would give a yellow cast & fluorescent would give a green cast. Neither could really be corrected to be as good as sunlight.

Now we have nearly all LED internal lighting, with all kinds of different color temps, brands, etc. Maybe the balance changes as they age too?

Hiked the Massacre Falls trail today. Great weather, and the wildflowers are just starting to emerge. But only a small trickle at the waterfall today.

Came across this diamondback on the way back down, but he was pretty sluggish. We gave him plenty of space!

Yellow flower: California poppy. Eschscholzia californica.
