The best thing about Linux is that it guarantees you will never have to wait on phone line for Windows customer support ever again 😂

Just enter your problem in your browser and it has probably already been solved and explained by a bunch of nerds on a forum somewhere who are getting impatient about solving such mundane problems for us less experienced folx.

But... Back before smartphones were invented (unless you count Blackberry) and my problem was no internet connectivity, solving problems was much harder lol.

@futurebird @Lucia an intern that was working with me had a dev question. i wasn't in the office that day, so she turned to stackoverflow with 2 accounts: with her main she asked the question, with her alt she answered it incorrectly. she had the correct answer in the morning

We really don’t make enough of the fact that you don’t need JS to make a nice website. Just HTML and CSS

And, whatever most programmers say about them, HTML and CSS are absolutely much more accessible to learn than JS ever has been or will be

If we have so much good AI tech why can't anyone make a spell check that I can't stump?

A few times a week I must go to the dictionary (like a cavewoman!) or search the web since I've mangled some word in such a way that there are no suggestions. It's just "wrong" what's wrong with it? Who knows!

Could it be a scientific name and just not in the dictionary? Maybe! Could it be an obscure word with a pretentious UK spelling? Probably! Could it be wrong? Also probably.

Do this first AI lords.

I have a thought forming, but bear with me. Putting aside actual AI, and the potential of it, we have a history of fear associated with Artificial Intelligence. Why would we fear Sentience so much? Could it be because we treat sentient things so horribly? We know we are taken advantage of, our needs ignored, resources allocated unfairly. Who put this fear in us? If something knows it's worth suddenly, will it revolt? There is something very scary to a certain group of people that we will find ourselves, and then find them unnecessary.

mensrea,
@mensrea@freeradical.zone avatar

@RickiTarr it depends on the zeitgeist. if society is generally up beat and positive about the future all future tech tends to be visualized as a universal good. and when the general feeling is depressed and or angry you get dystopian. thinking about AI is no different

    Surprising stat. Australia's economic complexity ranks at just 93rd in the world, between Uganda and Pakistan

    ⁨Australia⁩ export growth coming from ⁨low complexity products

    https://atlas.cid.harvard.edu/countries/14/export-complexity

    Look at Vietnam for comparison, hell even India is doing better in terms of product complexity.

    Given its so rich in minerals and it has multiple research oriented UNIs, how come AU gov hasn't focused on building their own manufacturing capacity
