I still wonder if there's a bit of survivorship bias here. Maybe we only find paintings of such antiquity because they lay undisturbed for so long. What if our ancestors painted every surface they could lay a brush on, yet only these survived?

I've just seen the Netflix series All The Light We Cannot See, based on the novel by Anthony Doerr which is sitting on my bookcase. It has tempted me to read and/or reread some novels based in WWII.

Absolutely not hating on Ange-ball, but there's something not quite right about our execution. We absolutely dominated possession, made more passes than I've had hot dinners, but managed two shots on goal the whole game. And whenever we lose the ball there's this lunatic rush to win it back, which inevitably yields fouls and yellow cards. There are times when it's OK to let the oppo have the ball for a bit. Maybe aren't the sort you want to have it, but still...

I had a funny feeling we'd scored too early. Do that and you have to kill the game off, preferably with one either side of half time to ensure their spirit is crushed.

I was watching on TNT in the UK; Darren Fletcher had one of his rare moments of clarity, saying November is when you start losing players to suspensions. Lo and behold, Bissouma misses the next match for a fifth yellow.

Normally I get annoyed by the international break. But it can't come soon enough.

I had a feeling this was coming. Just didn't expect all the bad news to come from one match.

I haven't looked at the numbers but my impression is that our players were more prone to injury when Poch was in charge than when Mourinho or Conte were. High-pressing, fast football really takes its toll. You can go a whole season without getting a knock or a tear when you play without the ball, employ a low block, park the bus, and be as negative and boring as you can.

Question for owners. What does your dog bring you (or visitors to your home) when you cross the threshold? The classic is "slippers" and it's tempting to ascribe intentionality: "Make yourself comfortable!" But I get brought stuffed toys as well as footwear. I wonder if it's whatever comes to mouth, as it were.

There was something slightly frustrating about our buildup play. An attacker will take the ball to the 18 yard line, then turn his back to goal and wait for someone to pass to. This gave Luton time to regroup. It's almost as if they aren't allowed to score unless they've had ten passes in the opposition's half.

Feels like a big 3 points despite this fixture at the beginning feeling like it should have been a routine win. Really had to grind this one out.

Spurs go top of the table for the time being. Dream start to the season.

I feel bad for Richarlison. At Everton he got 43 goals in 135 appearances. For Brazil he's getting a goal pretty much every other game. His form at Spurs has been like it was at Watford, i.e. crummy.

I think he's got the yips. It's not like his positioning is bad: he just can't seem to find the net.

Half time at Kenilworth Road and its 0-0 between Luton and Spurs.

Unbelievably we're now down to 10 men after Bissouma has a heads-gone moment and gets himself sent off for simulation after having already been booked.

Barring that, we've done everything right in this game apart from putting the ball in the net.

Frustrating and we've made it hard for ourselves now with a player down. Still have faith we can see the game out though.

Serious question: How do and wider / fans here on Mastodon feel about Klopp's call for a replay?

Seems like a PR own goal to me as a Spurs fan. He seems to be coming in for quite a bit of stick and ridicule from the wider footballing world.

I'm loving Chris Cowlin's response. And Jan Vertonghen shows what a legend he is. Trent Alexander-Arnold's "have to move forward and put it behind us" comment is mature, too.

The video PGMOL released shows VAR's voice procedure is complete shit. If you look at cricket, TV reviews (slow as they are) follow a very careful procedure.

The first thing they confirm is the on-field decision. So they know right from the start whether the review will overturn or confirm the decision.
