🪑⑁💺 Looking for home office chair recommendations. 🪑⑁💺
I work from home full time. I spend 8 hour plus extra at night sometimes for study sessions / programming hobbies. Fairly regular sized person, looking for back support - I currently sit at the edge of my seat for some reason. Probably not good.
Willing to spend some money on this, although I will mumble and grumble about it.
"Return-to-office mandates at some of the most powerful #tech companies — #Apple, #Microsoft and #SpaceX — were followed by a spike in departures among the most senior, tough-to-replace talent...
“We find experienced #employees impacted by these policies at major #tech companies seek #work elsewhere, taking some of the most valuable human capital investments and tools of #productivity with them,” said... one of the study’s authors.

Study on return-to-office mandates gets international attention | University Times | University of Pittsburgh
"The results showed that while many of the companies said they were bringing employees back to the office to improve the bottom line, there were no significant changes in financial performance or firm values after the mandates were implemented. But there was a sharp decrease in employees’ job satisfaction."
The craze by inflexible managers for forcing workers back into the office has to stop. It's made worse when they demand 100% office time and 0% work from home, or doing a bait-and-switch by offering work from home but then changing the deal. It's bad for everyone, but especially bad for women who have additional pressure on them for family and health reasons (in addition to the usual workplace sexism).
Listen to women.
"Google went from you have to be in Mountain View at least three days a week to do this job to you can do it from India and Mexico in less than a year."
Does anyone have #recommendations for a low chair or pillow for my desk? Right now, these three pillows are almost perfect to be able to sit on the floor, but it’s a bit unstable. I have been looking for floor pillows and poufs, but maybe I need something else?
"While remote work was rare before the pandemic, today, 28 percent of Americans are working a “hybrid” schedule, going into the office some days, and 13 percent are working remotely full-time.
Switching to remote work instead of going into the office can cut a person’s carbon footprint by 54 percent, according to a study published in the journal PNAS last fall, even when accounting for non-commute travel and residential energy use.."
"Commuter travel falls under a company’s so-called “Scope 3” emissions, the indirect sources that routinely get ignored, but represent, on average, three-quarters of the business world’s emissions. "
If you are on Windows and you want to control 2 PC's with a single mouse and keyboard, then you should check out Mouse Without Borders. It's a great piece of software that allows you to do just that without the need of any extra hardware.
Alright, home labbers and work from home techies. It's time for a cable modem upgrade. I have Spectrum as my provider, up to 1 gig down / 35 up. (From my current of 60 up!).... Recommendations?
Have you ever thought of budgeting your time like money? Well, I did, and I have noticed that I am more productive, I avoid burning myself out, and I've been able to adapt to unexpected things that happen during my day without completely losing my day in the process. Most importantly, however, I feel a lot less stressed out about my schedule.
Great piece by @alabut on digital relationships. I've been working from home since pre-pandemic too and loving it. Here Al expounds upon what tech and the web means to our generation and even older generations, as we all use it to try and improve our stuff. Awesome read.

#Employers are using scent to boost moods and get workers to come in. Just be careful about the combo of lavender and pumpkin pie.
"For the millions of #workers who find going into the office stinks, some real-estate executives say they have a remedy: Make the #office smell better."
