I am curious if the "announcment" feature Mastodon admins have access to is actually useful.

I suspect many people never see them. I think I've only ever seen it displayed in the "official" mastodon web UI. And never in any of the (many) apps I use.

Today is my 21st wedding anniversary. On our first wedding anniversary, we were pretty broke, so hubs made me homemade coupons for massages, but he spelled it wrong, so I got a handful of printed out coupons for 1 Hour of Messages. So, every year since I get something like this:

Johnson serves at Democrats' pleasure. Johnson's statements at Trump's trial were despicable. More than anything, this was a statement from the Speaker that he’s willing to steal the election for Trump, and Democrats should say, “Then you’re out.”

How much alone time vs socializing do you need?

For me there are a few people who are usually equalizing, and I can just be around them, so I won't count that. But generally, I find about 3 times a week, I'm game for socializing. A day in between to rest is usually nice, but the larger the gathering or if we go somewhere particularly noisy or I'm meeting new people that involves more effort, and my social battery empties sooner. I'm very curious where everyone else falls on this!

I think it’s cool that our viewpoint is actually from behind the two men, yet we see them from their front in the mirrored reflection. But because, apparently, we’re vampires, we don’t see our own reflection.

Clouds. In Colorado. May 2024

Panoramic photo of mostly white clouds in the Colorado sky. I call them Simpson Clouds, from the opening credits on The Simpsons. Except the gray bottoms of the clouds gives it a slightly sinister look, I think. The view is looking west. If you zoom in to the bottom the Mummy Range of the Rocky Mountains is the bumps at the left, and lower, but closer foothills at the center. May 2024

I had a Quadra of some model way back when at work. It’s the backstory for my user name, in fact. I always named the succession of Mac hard drives I had something cute and qurlyjoe is a mashup of Quadra and Curly Joe from the Three Stooges. I don’t recall ever opening one up.

So, what's up with idiots having bullets in their luggage when they go to Turks and Caicos? How stupid do you have to be to do this, especially if you're the fucking fifth one in the past few weeks? It’s a pretty popular 14er (a collection of something like 47 or so mountains in Colorado with elevations of 14K feet or more) and is about an hour from Denver so lots of opportunities for falls. Park Service recommends starting out by 4AM from the trail head, in order to be off the mountain before the frequent afternoon weather brings rain or snow. Most falls and fatalities occur on the descent, likely due to altitude-related lightheadedness.
