This is tough, but here goes .
100 Years of Solitude, or anything by Garcia Marquez
The Death of Speedy, or any Love & Rockets by the Hernandez Bros
The Futurological Congress, Lem
Hurricane Season, Melchor
The Twilight Zone, Fernandez
Life and Times of Michael K, Coetzee
The Fan Man, Kotzwinkle
The Land of Hearts Desire, Yeats
Omeros, Walcott
El Polizon del Ulises, Matute
Miguel Street, Naipaul
The Savage Detectives, Bolaño
The Overstory, Powers

rchopgood,

@tffmh @franciscawrites @bookstodon I went with Futurulogical Congress from Lem, but coul'dve easily picked Solaris or Star Diaries or Imaginary Magnitude or just about any of his books.

rchopgood,

@arnoldtabbs @franciscawrites @bookstodon Somehow missed Vonnegut in my list, not sure how. Shoud've been there. I would've gone with Bluebeard.

@Abibliophobia @franciscawrites @bookstodon
Overstory and 100 Years both on my list... automatic follow 😁 And The Road could've easily been included. I LOVE that book.

Finished reading the wonderful White Cat, Black Dog by the ever magical @KellyLink
I particularly loved Skinner's Veil, but all the stories were amazing.

Went on a ride and there was a guide commentator for the 1.5 hour tour and he was a total .
Realized that's a perfect job for an Energy . Captive audience for the duration of the tour. Almost had to jump into the river to save myself. Not sure how we made it through but people couldnt wait to get off that boat.

Man when I watch ant videos like this one moving to Australia almost seems worth it. Love Myrmecia. Just such lively expressive ants. Here is the story of a single mom providing for and raising her little family.

She is a bright eyed and angry lady and make smaller but also angry looking daughters.

@bookstodon Often, lonnnnnnggg books get overlooked. (I am guilty of this myself.) So, Bibliophiles, tell us which HUGE tomes are worth the hefty page count.

A few of my rec's:

11/22/63, Stephen King
1Q84, Haruki Murakami
2666, Roberto Balaňo
Gnomon, Nick Harkaway
The Third Person, Emma Grove
Wayward, Chuck Wendig

I love a good long book. I love a book that takes months or longer to read. It becomes like living in it. the book seeps into your life in a way that shorter books don't.

rchopgood, (edited )

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon
All that being said, I'm gonna be that guy and recommend Infinite Jest. It's really an amazing piece of work in so many ways. Sort of surprised no one has mentioned it.
Also, Nabokov's Pale Fire.
Brothers Karamazov took me a year, and by the end I was living in that world and it was amazing.
2666 of course which you mention, but also The Savage Detectives might be an easier entry into his work.

I dragged myself through Gravity's Rainbow and only finished it because i'm so stubborn. But except for a few masterful sections, the bulk of it seemed very dated.

I do love signing a short story contract for a paying market.
Which #pen should i use? What? It's all digital nowadays? oh well. Guess i'll go write a letter.

Yes, i understand why they ask for it.
But they should be asking for social media links or something generic like that. By specififying twitter they support the idea that twitter is a requirement for writers. Plus they give free pr to twitter which i doubt they are paying for.

rchopgood,

@ljwrites I used to do that, now i leave it blank. but its annoying the constant asking.

First person to write a novel: what if I just lie about stuff for like 400 pages and then sell it

rchopgood,

@rebrafsim Why only 400? Cervantes pulled in his don quixote at over a 1000 pages... not technically the first novel though. But Tale of Genji is also over a 1000 pages...
