So I went for a five km walk and an ice cream, and I bumped into two dear friends on separate parts of the route and stopped and had a natter. Then unfortunately I got into an altercation with a woman who was blocking the shop door with not one, not two, but THREE dogs and making no effort to let people in or out. She outright refused to move them, and made a yapping mouth gesture with her hand at me. I climbed over the dogs and left but in that moment I could cheerfully have slapped her. I didn’t want to end up in court, though 😂 Honestly, so rude and thoughtless! I’m surprised the shop staff didn’t ask her to move. Anyway that ruffled my feathers and I’m only just starting to calm down.

Practiced SEL with my students today. They learned about “grounding”

I’ve never seen my kids more engaged.

Here’s a quick grounding tip: pick a color and then find 5 objects around you that match that color. You’ll notice while searching for items, you can’t think about anything else, affording approximately 10 seconds of worry-free time.

What’s your favorite “grounding” technique?

I went to the Cutty Sark in Greenwich today. That's in London for you non-UK types. It was a fast clipper that used to carry tea from China to London. Now in a museum dry-dock. Fascinating machine for harnessing the wind. I hope we can move back to some wind power for shipping - it'll never be quite like this, but a massive kite towing a container ship would be a sight to see.

You don't realize how ridiculously complicated the rules of football are until you try to teach a kid. You get all the real basics down, then there's a flag for illegal formation or ineligible man down field, and they're like "what's that?" Then you're like "you know what? Fuck this, let's go build Legos."

@the_etrain So true, as a Brit I can tell you it's most peculiar! One I can't fathom is when a runner gets stopped but not tackled to the ground and eventually the refs blow a whistle and say "that's enough now", and then pick somewhere at random to spot the ball. How the hell does that work??

A heads-up for car manufacturers.

When one turns off the ignition, the windscreen wipers should immediately stop in whatever position they are at. The wipers should not return to their rest position.

It is a time-honoured tradition that one would stop the wipers in their upright position, as a means to hold a windscreen blanket in place. This means the blanket stays in-place, & acts as a frost prevention measure.

My current car, and two previous vehicles, return the wipers to rest.

@fitheach If you press both break and clutch fully down, indicate left, and then turn the ignition on, and release only the clutch, then it will disable this function. Simple.
