"The raw coordinates and their timestamps were processed to detect individual (trips) for each battery using @movingpandas

The individual trajectories were split between stopping points, which were detected when the coordinates of the remained within a diameter of 200 m for at least 5 min

For each detected trip, the start time, end time, trip duration, trip distance, and average trip speed were determined and recorded for further analysis

Got really excited about this demo by Elle O'Brian using

just to run into an unfortunately timed upstream issue
https://github.com/iterative/cml/issues/1377

Maybe it's a sign to focus on preparing my summer school lecture instead of playing with new toys 🤷‍♀️👩‍💻

A question for folks. I'm always pushing FOSS options at work, at home, at my church. A response I often hear is "how do they expect to make any money?"

How do you respond to those sorts of comments? I am terrible at concise answers, and usually end up boring or confusing the person.

underdarkGIS,
@underdarkGIS@fosstodon.org avatar

@jcarlson As always: it depends.

Common business models are: consulting, feature development, and customization

For maintenance, most FOSS projects rely on voluntary donations by individual users and recurring contributions by companies relying on the projects

Visualising output of the :qgis: subdivide algorithm.

This splits complex polygons into lots of simpler polygons. Spatial indexes are better with lots of smaller, simpler polygons.

This makes point/polygon intersection queries a lot faster.

I find subdivide gives invalid geometry in 's-Hertogenbosch (self-intersections).

So I split multiparts to single parts, then I buffer inwards by a tiny amount which fixes it.

@stevefaeembra that looks really helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Re invalid polygons:
quite often, even buffer with zero helps

Is this the final showdown between Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin and the Russian military?

Events of the last 24 hours:

— Russian military has killed several Wagner soldiers in a missile strike.
— Prigozhin has announced, “The evil that the military leadership of the country bears must be stopped. I ask you not to resist anyone. Everyone who tries will be destroyed. Justice in the troops will be restored, and after that, justice in all of Russia”.
— FSB setting up road blocks.

Next level :python: :qgis: proof of concept:

Turned a simple QGIS Processing model into a data-versioned workflow

"Why is this great?" you may ask ❓

DVC tracks data, parameters, and code. If anything changes, we simply rerun the process and DVC will figure out which stages need to be recomputed and which can be skipped by re-using cached results.

This can lead to huge time savings compared to re-running the whole model 👩‍💻🥳
