When I grow up (2024), I want to work in audio engineering/production. Or in disaster response. Or teach. Or be a dinosaur. But probably the audio thing.

99.9% of jobs do not require urgency of any kind, really they don't. We've all had a boss who acts like someone will die if we don't hit some made up deadline by people who don't even do the job. No one needs their meal 1 minute faster or the paperwork before tomorrow morning. Your time off actually doesn't need to wait. Sometimes I think about how legitimately bad most businesses are at time management and hiring, and I wonder how they manage to exist at all.

:US Army has entered the chat:

We are so bad at time management. Soldiers sitting around on their phones for 3 hours while their leaders are in a meeting, only to get stuck with work until 8pm on an 'urgent' thing they could have done that morning if only someone had planned ahead.

The thing where we treat everything like it's a wartime operational crisis even though we're at home in garrison? I do not like this thing at all.

It can be very difficult to convince someone of their own worth when society around them says they don't have any

but if you know better

you really ought to tell them so from time to time

After 20 years, I'm starting to suspect that The Army is not for me.

I will retire from it in summer 2024 and move to the , TN, area to learn engineering.

I want to help people make the thing they have going on in their heads come out of the speakers. Making is for everyone; I want to enable that.

Meanwhile, I play not terribly for anyone who is willing to have me on their project.

OK, so is terribly clever. It is a site generator for quickly creating a simple music streaming/storefront site.

It's somewhat limited in terms of payment supported (liberapay only, if the docs are to be believed) but this is quite clever and simple to figure out.

Here's a random question. Anyone know a good tool for building a ?

I am trying to sort out and identify missing records for a 20+ year military career. As you may imagine, there are a LOT of records, but it would be nice if I could plot things on a timeline and more quickly identify where the gaps are.

OK, my site is live. As most of my existing music is CC BY-SA, full-quality downloads have mostly been inflicted on Archive.org already, but you can at least stream everything and there are links to and .

I apologize for spamming you about the "Salvation" album, but we have been working on this a very long time and I'm very proud of my work on it.

But also it will get worse once I start talking in nauseating detail about interesting things from every individual track

so I won't be offended--even if I knew, which I won't--if you mute me for a while

I probably would

but seriously, album

Re: last boost from @greg_doucette :

he's a real good guy, this is a real good cause that I'd been following for years on the other terrible social media site. I would hate for that site's utter collapse to mean fewer kids having enough to eat over the holidays. Please consider donating if you can.

Still messing with and the Logos by Nick videos were the ones I have enjoyed the most so far on YouTube, so I went ahead and bought his master class series on Teachable. It's about $15 right now, and totally worth it to me to have all of the videos without any ads. Very good content.

I normally hate watching videos to learn things, but watching a pro do vector design is oddly soothing.

Dearest friends planning your killer:

Please include features that would let me

  1. Auto split proceeds between me and collaborators in a transparent way

  2. Divert artist share of proceeds to a non-profit or "cause" account in a transparent way

because I think we need the bar for both and to be super low

Seriously heard someone saying they don't listen to many black artists, because they aren't really into rap. Bitch please, feel free to share songs from Black artists from any genre. Here is one of my favorites, if you like this song please check out her other work:

As linked below, the title track is on YouTube. We've also got a few other choice tracks that we are finalizing for the 2 Feb official release, including a fantastic one from @mykie.

@screwtape will be playing a few tracks tonight on their show (I'll try to be there) and @jessica will do a related charity livestream next week.

You should hopefully hear it on soon.

And me? I will finish the bass line for the last track today. =)

Our new EP Dolorosa is now LIVE

$2.99

All proceeds go to One Voice Chorus: onevoicechorus.ca

Featuring

  • instrumental title track
  • @mykie 's awesome western version of Jessica classic "Blood and Blackouts"
  • our creatively chaotic cover of @bluenagoon 's "This Isn't Over Yet"
  • a re-imagining of one of Jessica's least favorite instrumental songs, "Hopes and Dreams" which is now much better.

okay, I think I got this figured out

Since I have suddenly found myself with some free time to prepare (thanks Army), I will do a sort of informal release livestream playthrough chat thing tonight at 5pm Pacific (midnight UTC).

Things you may expect:

  • technical difficulties
  • isolated tracks with color commentary
  • discussion of recording and collab process and tools
  • me forgetting how to play my own parts
  • plugs to buy the EP on

I know sometimes it feels like we're all just passing the same $6 around and around BandCamp, buying each other's stuff

But so what?

What I like most about is a) musicians putting themselves out there to share what they've made and b) musicians pimping each other's stuff because we want other people to hear the music and people we love.

It's needed.

Special shout out to hypemasters @KydiaMusic , @elsemusic , @axwax , @SrRochardBunson, @etherdiver and all those who build us up
