Let's stop using the term, "ai art," and start saying, "ai content."

They want us to call our work, "content," and they want us to call their junk, "art." No.

A few days ago @ward tooted about how it's somehow "AI art", but if it's human-made, inexplicably it's just "content":
https://easymode.im/notes/9s9fhdg8jh3gi3h7

His toot has been living rent-free in my head ever since.

I had ranted a few times before how "content" is a corporate-y way to devalue art. How "user-generated content" is a term designed to make it easier to deny the significance (not just monetary) of the amazing stuff people create online.

Contrasting this with "AI art" is jarring, and spot-on. 👀

@rysiek @leadegroot it's all from the Bill Gates take on what would rule the Internet: content is king. Which is true when it comes to ad revenue... Just cranking out junk will make you more AdSense revenue, but it won't guarantee it's value. But all the money people focused on the content grind. YouTube changed the creators dashboard from "videos," to, "content." Netflix executives call their shows, "content." This wasn't exactly a calculated thing. It's basically just how they see art. They can not make art, but the can monetize content.

But suddenly there's ai... And now the think they are making something so they just ignorantly call it, "ai art." I think it's all part of their twisted psyche. They are patronizing to real artists because they see them as content cannons who create stuff for them to monetize... They do not see value in the art though... But if they generate stuff from a prompt, they think it's magical and valuable art because they "created" it.

My latest trigger is that look people get when you tell them you don't use or threads... and you use forums and the ... and you don't use or ... you have a with content... or you don't have prime, you shop at smaller shops... you can see them judging you like, "oh your one of those insufferable types."

How did we people get this way? they roll their eyes when you don't worship the corporations and trust them with your data... they just use streaming services and own nothing and get annoyed when you say, "I don't have spotify." ... and they huff at you if you don't support the biggest mega-corporations. This is manufactured consent on a level I don't even think Noam could have predicted (he did though).

This was posted on a new social media platform (not the FB one). Humans are so broken now. We have been trained that all legitimate things only come from billionaires and corporations. What they seem to want is a good or server, but whenever I bring that up I can see people making the yikes face. They are just waiting for the next billionaire sociopath to come along and "save" them from the current billionaire sociopath.

FPS fans help me share this! The First Person Shooter Documentary is out and it's fucking awesome. I highly recommend it. 4 hours. Interviews with dozens of devs... covering probably 1 billion games.

@ward@easymode.im avatar

A while back we made a little emulation console (no os included), but it was just a re-branded system I produced just for me really... I wanted something faster than the Raspberry Pi 3 and 4.

However, what I really want now is a little system with a TV output (s-video or RGB)... and a vga output. It could probably be achieved with an analog VGA out and an adapter cable... with some timings and such tweaked in the firmware.

I know there's the MiSTer FPGA option, but I'd be happy with software emulation for $200ish. I mean, it wouldn't be as perfect, but maybe close enough and less than half the price. You could just install retroarch or batocera or whatever... turn on run-ahead to kill any latency, and it could be good.
Should I look into something like this when I'm in Taiwan talking to a few companies? Would anyone care?

OH, the Sen Pi units are all sold out and I probably won't make anymore... they're collectors items now!

I don't post many videos here... But this is about the & lawsuit. I think their main goal is to kill emulation...

I was looking for to help with this project I'm working on... I posted here and on the bird site... but I had to delete my post there in about 10 minutes because I was getting so much spam from anime avatars who ALL refused to show their work and kept asking me to dm them. Anybody know what that's all about? Felt like a scam of some kind, but I'm not sure what.

ward,

they were all posting the same things as well... could it be AI accounts trying to do ai art then charge me for it?

I've seen people say that Baldur's Gate 3 was lightning in a bottle, and I think that's totally incorrect. It's pure and simple, Larian Studios did the work. The work they did on their previous games (Divinity: OS 1 & 2) built the foundation that allowed them to create BG3.

Larian is NOT a typical AAA dev... I still consider them indie, despite their size. Indie simply means that they do not have to answer to a publisher. While this was D&D, they simply purchased the rights and Hasbro did not have any input in the creative process.

Larian works on projects they love. They create what they want to create. They seek community feedback after a certain point, but ultimately, they are in charge. They do not focus on monetization schemes or addictive mechanics... they just make good games. They earned this. It isn't lightning in a bottle... it's math.

More old game music. Blackthorne (Blackhawk in some parts of the world) had two completely different soundtracks. The PC had a much more whimsical and melodious music, while the SNES favored mood over melody. It was all composed by Glenn Stafford. Which one did you like better?

Bandcamp Friday ends in 8 hours... so I dropped the price on the latest album to $3.33... If you like moody old video game music with a DOS/SNES/NES flavor... I think you might like it.

Artists get to keep all the loot today! Thanks in advance for any reviews on the album. Enjoy.

I made a tutorial on how to install Portainer and Nginx Proxy Manager on Debian 12... and then you can install hundreds of docker apps (wordpress, jellyfin, rss readers, torrenting programs, whatever!).
