Life in the UK:

Elsewhere the arrival of the Taylor Swift tour has prompted discussion (expectations) of how the tour ticket sales & other expenditure will prompt a focussed economic boomlet....

In the UK, predictions are focussed on the likely expansion of ticketing fraud.

Yup, we really do have a bad reputation....

@ChrisMayLA6 the definitiion of ticket fraud has also expanded though. It used to be useless tickets were fraud.

And every empty seat was an opportunity. Now tickets can be tied to a specific person so you could buy a ticket which is valid only if you are that person.

F*** venues, ticket sellers and their whole "business"

I Honestly feel CD's and MP3's are better. Only Vinyl adds some quirky (yet predictable) charm.

No idea why so many waste limited funds fluffing the ego's of "talent"

Taylor Swift Eras Tour Raises COVID Fears.

"Reports of COVID clusters are circulating after Swift's Paris shows."

"data suggested that hospital visits between May 6-12 rose 20% among those under 15-years-old, and 28% for those 15 and over."

The agency's data suggested that hospital visits between May 6-12 rose 20 percent among those under 15-years-old, and 28 percent for those 15 and over. Meanwhile, scientists have warned of a "summer wave" of infections in the U.S. from a highly transmissible set of omicron subvariants. What We Know Some people on social media who said they had attended the concert have urged fellow attendees to test for COVID-19. One user who attended the Era's Tour in Paris, posted her positive COVID-19 test on TikTok, writing, "Check if you don't have Covid even tho you don't have any symptoms! A lot of us are sick right now." Another concertgoer posted on X, formerly Twitter: "back from the Taylor Swift concert with a scratchy throat, runny nose... If the government had maintained health measures, I would not be in this sad state." France lifted most of its COVID-19 restrictions in March 2022 and since February 2023 there is no requirement to self-isolate if you test positive. Wearing a mask in a public place is recommended, but not mandatory. Views "We know that the most risky places for Covid-19 transmission are poorly ventilated, crowded, indoor places," Christina Pagel, a professor at University College London who focuses on research in health policy, told Newsweek. "We also know that singing or shouting is more risky as more virus is emitted with each breath. Thus big concerts, particularly in older venues with poorer ventilation, represent a higher risk for catching something."

@mastodonmigration @DenisCOVIDinfoguy @auscovid19 Yeah, we belonged to a choir and loved it, but we have had to stop attending because they stopped caring about mitigation.
Choirs did a lot of work early in the pandemic about things like rehearsing outside, masking and how to sing in them, zoom rehearsals etc.
It was really hard!
When we moved back inside and masks were voluntary we were the only people using them.

@mastodonmigration People who speak loudly spread the virus further than those who speak softly. 😀

The highest-grossing tour in history finally arrived in Europe on Thursday as Taylor Swift kicked off her European dates with four nights in Paris. Thousands of fans were already visiting the La Defense Arena 24 hours before the show just to get their hands on the merchandise as soon as possible. FRANCE 24 journalist Peter O'Brien went to meet "Swifties" outside the La Defense Arena.

Here's another inquiry thrown out into the Mastodon fediverse ...

Any of you live in Vancouver, B.C.? As you might have heard, I'll be going to the early December concert at Vancouver's BC Place stadium. So I'm wondering: what are the best, not-so-expensive places to stay nearby?

Thanks for any advice you can give on procuring lodging near (or maybe somewhat near) the stadium around the concert day!

#TaylorSwift recently paid homage to early Hollywood star Clara Bow on her new album "The Tortured Poets Department."

Bow was known as Hollywood's "hottest jazz baby," becoming a huge star who received 45,000 fan letters a month in the 1920s. However, she struggled under the strict control of the studio system and was often the target of tabloid gossip. After decades of relentless demands, Bow made a bold move to leave Hollywood.

I've given myself time to digest the new record. I think if I were to rank it alongside her other albums, it would somewhere be in the bottom half...

That being said, I feel like most of my problems with the record are the track listing. While Taylor has excellent songs on every album, she could really curate the tracklist a bit better.

I made a 13-track playlist version of the album for when I get too overwhelmed by the real one.

jcoigdanes,
@jcoigdanes@mastodon.social avatar

I still think , , and are her top 3.

I'm hopeful she'll collaborate more with other producers for her next album. I'd love to see what she can make with Ariel Rechtshaid.
