Taylor Swift Eras Tour Raises COVID Fears.

"Reports of COVID clusters are circulating after Swift's Paris shows."

"data suggested that hospital visits between May 6-12 rose 20% among those under 15-years-old, and 28% for those 15 and over."

The agency's data suggested that hospital visits between May 6-12 rose 20 percent among those under 15-years-old, and 28 percent for those 15 and over. Meanwhile, scientists have warned of a "summer wave" of infections in the U.S. from a highly transmissible set of omicron subvariants. What We Know Some people on social media who said they had attended the concert have urged fellow attendees to test for COVID-19. One user who attended the Era's Tour in Paris, posted her positive COVID-19 test on TikTok, writing, "Check if you don't have Covid even tho you don't have any symptoms! A lot of us are sick right now." Another concertgoer posted on X, formerly Twitter: "back from the Taylor Swift concert with a scratchy throat, runny nose... If the government had maintained health measures, I would not be in this sad state." France lifted most of its COVID-19 restrictions in March 2022 and since February 2023 there is no requirement to self-isolate if you test positive. Wearing a mask in a public place is recommended, but not mandatory. Views "We know that the most risky places for Covid-19 transmission are poorly ventilated, crowded, indoor places," Christina Pagel, a professor at University College London who focuses on research in health policy, told Newsweek. "We also know that singing or shouting is more risky as more virus is emitted with each breath. Thus big concerts, particularly in older venues with poorer ventilation, represent a higher risk for catching something."

@mastodonmigration @DenisCOVIDinfoguy @auscovid19 Yeah, we belonged to a choir and loved it, but we have had to stop attending because they stopped caring about mitigation.
Choirs did a lot of work early in the pandemic about things like rehearsing outside, masking and how to sing in them, zoom rehearsals etc.
It was really hard!
When we moved back inside and masks were voluntary we were the only people using them.

Managed to do a fair bit of gardening today despite battling the start of a migraine (eventually thwarted by caffeine and rest in the afternoon). I repotted a blueberry plant that was in a way too small pot. I also repotted my $5 tubestock camellia I purchased recently.

My big success was finishing sieving my worms from their worm poo and therefore being able to retire one tray of my worm farm. It has taken me many hours over a few weekends to accomplish this because it is the first time I have done it and I didn't know what I was doing. Eventually with advice from @treevan and @earthmothering9 I got it and this morning I was much more efficient. This is what social media is so good for - sharing skills and experience as well as encouraging others.

So I cleaned up a worm tray and felt good!

Australian children are missing out on learning music at school and out of school. Parents are cutting back as cost of living rises.

Learning to play music as a child is so important for people's well-being and enriches society.

SYDNEY, April 26, 2024: Composting’s role in the fight against climate change will be in focus during International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW), to be held from May 5-11 in Australia. Amid the increasing frequency of extreme weather events such as flooding, droughts or bushfires, composting offers a practical, hands-on response to climate change mitigation where every household can join the global effort. “As a community we can all contribute to a healthy planet by keeping food scraps away from landfill and one of the ways is through composting,” says Chris Rochfort, CEO of the Centre for Organic Research & Education (CORE). “Composting can help reduce landfill methane emissions and restoring soil health, which will help build resilience to climate change, reduce reliance on synthetic fertilisers, and sequester carbon by removing it from the atmosphere.” Composting can benefit the climate in many ways.

My mother's garden in full autumnal colour: this morning I divided more clivias and planted the extra plants in the communal garden that lines a long path. I also pruned some Ivy geraniums and placed cuttings in the communal garden.

The body corporate does not have much of a gardening budget so we we are filling the big empty gaps beneath trees with plants that Mum can't fit in her garden. I follow the 'don't seek permission' principle but we both understand that if they don't like them then they can feel free to remove them.

After the working bee in Mum's garden last weekend there are fewer potted plants and the camellia in the foreground on the left (dark green leaves) is free of the jasmine that was covering the top of it.

@perkinsy One wise lady in Perth uses a seive with the worm casting in it. She pours water through the seive into a bucket, which separates the worms. The liquid is then poured onto the garden. I have used this technique and find it works pretty well.

Today is International Workers’ Memorial Day. We remember those who have needlessly lost their lives at work.
In Western Australia we have a memorial to those who didin't come home from work- and they are often in the mining and construction industries.

No-one should die at work.

Today my husband added three new shelves to our food cupboard and we bought some clear plastic boxes to store the food on the shelves. It is a narrow but deep cupboard so things get lost at the back of the shelves. With the plastic boxes we can pull everything out very easily and see the contents.

The new shelves and efficient organisation means we can store a lot more in the cupboard. To our surprise after we finished the sorting we had an almost empty shelf in the middle of the cupboard.

We used a label maker to properly label our spice jars.

Study: Kids with COVID but no symptoms play key role in household spread.

A study today in Clinical Infectious Diseases conducted across 12 tertiary care pediatric hospitals in Canada and the United States shows that asymptomatic children with COVID-19, especially preschoolers, contribute significantly to household transmission.

"We determined that the risk of developing symptomatic illness within 14 days was 5 times greater among household contacts of asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2–positive children"

"The fact that approximately 1 in 13 asymptomatically infected children developed PCC [post-COVID condition, or long COVID] is concerning and requires further investigation"

Exciting news for Aussies!

Sustainable House Day is back with in-person home tours, and bigger than ever!

You can now explore this year’s featured homes, and make a booking for in-person open home tours - from a straw bale house on the west coast that feels like a warm hug, to a bushfire resilient home with sprawling views of the Tasman Peninsula in Tasmania!

A majority of the homes are opening in-person. For the safety and comfort of visitors and homeowners, places are strictly limited to timed sessions throughout the day - that do require a booking. Don’t miss out!

Long night so far.

A call from my sister just after midnight that she’d taken mum to the hospital.

Been holding bedside vigil while sister goes home and gets some sleep. Doctors running tests and whatnot. Morphine for the pain. Machines that go “bing”.

It’s about 4:30am and mum’s snoring with a plethora of tubes and wires.

Eyes are heavy. Chair is uncomfortable. The nurses showed me where I could make a cup of coffee for myself.
