Anarchism

Weirdos who had unrestricted access online growing up in the 1990s/2000s: "The children need to have their internet snooped and logged! Evil pedos on every corner! Shock sites! It's an outrage!"

Me when my parents watched my every move online: "If I look one thing up they don't approve of they'll lock me out of my only way of talking to social peers in this rural area. I'm not even allowed to have a screensaver with a password. A flash drive they didn't know about was near treason."

Me whenever I didn't have that spy shit: "Oh wow, this explains a lot to challenge what I was told by them. This explains the concepts of sex better than the books. This tells me the history of the world my family didn't know or didn't want me to know. No wonder they only wanted approved media, it fed me lies they wanted to use."

Also me: ha ha funny pony show they didn't like :3

I deeply cannot express enough that if your family (or any hierarchy for that matter) wants to lock down what you can see, say, or do, disobey them.

You might fuck up, but it's better to be free and learn mistakes than repressed or held back and socially outcast from your peers.

Your parents aren't cops. Your boss isn't a cop. The cops are fuckin dipshits. Fuck em all.

From Indymedia:

"'Last Thursday (23rd of May) there was an enormous revolt inside the detention centre in Rotterdam airport.
60 prisoners expecting deportation revolted and fought off the jailers, wounding 7. There have been no reports of casualties during the heat of the uprising under the resisters. 14 resisters were afterwards forced into isolation cells.'

Today [Yesterday] (Monday 27th of May) we held a spontaneous noise demo to show our solidarity and support for their courageous actions! We waved and shouted to each other "FREEDOM NOW!"

None are free until all are free.
Fire to the prisons with the jailers inside!

Every argument against boils down to, "We must be cruel or else someone will take advantage and be cruel, so stop complaining about our cruelty. Oh, and stop being so naive."

Any other anarchists out there who've ended up as "experts" in some field or another?

How do you navigate the power dynamics of that?

I have my own thoughts and approaches, but would love to hear from yous on how you go about it. I always love using my knowledge and experience to help people, but I'm very wary of running roughshod over people and try pretty hard not to cultivate deference in those interactions. But it's tricky, so please share your tricks!

I got to use my jail bag today!

I live near Bathurst jail. I used to live across the corner from it, but now we've moved about 10 minutes away.

While we lived across the corner I'd often see people released from the jail and start the 50 minute walk down to the station as they were just dumped back into society with less and less assistance or support in place. I'd often pop out the front door and ask of they wanted a lift, a number of times they'd say yes and I'd drive them down to the station (and once to Lithgow because he missed the train). People who do their time at Bathurst have been shipped in from all over the state, and are expected to just be able to get home again.

They also all carry their belongings in a clear plastic baggie the jail has given them, and everyone here knows if someone is carrying that bag they've just been released.. and a lot of people treat them like shit.

I started keeping a reusable shopping bag in my car to give them instead of using the clear baggie. Then I started stocking the bag with some essentials (masks, soap, socks, deodorant, snacks, drink, water, crossword book, pen, etc), so they might have a bit of comfort on their journey home.

Today I drove past the jail after dropping my housemate to work, and there was a guy standing at the bus stop with a clear baggie, so I asked if he wanted a lift to the station and gave him my jail bag.

He's excited to get home and see his dog after 16 months.

@aby
that was a very kind gesture on your part. when I was released from prison no one met me and the day I got out it was first week of January and a raging blizzard was in the process of piling up snow. as a long ago convict, your actions have meaning far beyond current events. 🤔

aby,
@aby@aus.social avatar

@skippy442 - ugh, that never should have happened to you. I'm really sorry nobody looked after you when you were released. People who go to jail shouldn't be discarded by us.

For the next reading we are going to be reviewing what happened during the Occupy movement of 2011 in order to gain insight for the current student occupations happening across North America in solidarity with Palestine.

States and corporations have almost unlimited power over the life of simple individual. A madman on top of state hierarchy could kill 100 000 of innocents and get away with it, while you may have a prison sentence because of a comment in the web. If you, like us, anarcho-mystics – think, that this is unfair -Turn your mind into a weapon! Check our pinned posts for techniques.

Additional info - incident took place 3.45 km from target zone. This time potential has realized in a good one.Target information, time marker, codes, key words etc - in a previous posts. We will try to do our best in making these attacks more potent and accurate in the future. People in a tyranny never sleep peacefully.

Fuck me, there are some bad anarchist takes here.

I just read someone talking about how anarchists shouldn't wear masks to hide their identity at protests bc then govts will outlaw mask wearing for everyone and that will effect people masking bc of covid.

We've masked at protests for decades - the reason anti-masking laws are coming into play now is because of facial recognition software being used by governments, and because the chipping away at protest laws that have happened over the last 20 years (looking at you, Australia.. you started it and 5Eyes followed) have gotten to the point where they don't have to pretend it's for "the public good".

You all have to get some better critical analysis skills. I'm begging!

Request: please help me find a grant

I have a friend who is most of the way done making an open source app that handles supply chain interactions without centralization. It uses a SSB backend so there aren’t any central servers and it’s not crypto. There’s no angle for him to get rich doing this, it’s just a good idea that he wants to exist in the world. Written in Clojure.

Current code: https://github.com/nanomonkey/scratch

@mykhaylo ok, I’ll ask him about the license.

The program tracks your inventory, then tracks the items when they go to someone else, and you can apply recipes to the items. The recipes can be passed around between people. So the items can have provenance. Recipes can offer alternatives. Does that make sense?

@flypaper not really to be honest. Bur never mind, thanks for the effort 🙏

This is who cops are. This is who the State is.

This isn't some anomalous occurrence due to the happenstance of a protest. They are like this 24/7/365, lying, cheating, brutalizing, doing everything they can to stay in power, and that's why they must be dismantled.

There is a better future ahead. If their rule was just, they wouldn't have to expend so much effort to maintain it.

Hold to hope! We will take back our planet.

A tweet from 2020 from the Columbia University Public Safety account advertising the very same lock and chain that NYPD and CU officials are claiming are from "outside agitators", writing that "Kryptonite bike locks are available at discount prices at CU public safety"
