OK, so I got this close 🤏🏾 to getting @videodreams posting again. It downloads images properly and assembles them into a webm video file. But it seems like Mastodon's updated something because now I'm getting the attached HTTP 422 error when trying to post the file.
Nice to know that the code still works, though! I'll have to come back and figure out how to play nice with Mastodon. #bots
The great thing is, the lessons learned in fixing @videodreams and creating @himawari_wpac will give me a chance to do the upgrade to @blackjoy that I've been meaning to do for so long. Woot. #bots
I reduced the posting frequency of some of the bots I've made recently, so if you've avoided them before for being too noisy, consider giving them a try now!
@dalereardon I haven't really touched Twitter's API in months. If I remember correctly, the API for writing is now free, and you have to pay for reading? If that's the case, you might just have to scrape the data.
"For distorted text fields, humans took 9-15 seconds with an accuracy of just 50-84 percent. Bots, on the other hand, beat the tests in less than a second with 99.8 percent accuracy."
@root42, I believe the APIs can be used to only request specific datums, e.g. not request anything else but proof of humanness. If in some country that's not possible, which would be surprising, there can be a trusted platform provider who only relays attestation that a person is human.
🐻 @bearcam: videos from Katmai National Park in Alaska, frequently featuring bears
🐠 @TropicalReefAquarium: a view from inside of a tropical reef aquarium in Long Beach, California
@bearcam@TropicalReefAquarium Typically I make bots that post only every 4-6 hours, but I figured since these are mostly live feeds, posting hourly makes sense? Easier to catch something interesting happening. Let me know what you think.
Also, a fun fact, adding these to https://botwiki.org brings the total number of bots on the site to 2,001 🎉
For those that weren't aware, IEMBot from Iowa State has come to the Fediverse officially. I'll leave it up to the bot maintainers whether or not they would rather continue running their own version which many of you are most likely already following.
@WXFanatic Don’t get me wrong, BTW: we all truly appreciate the work @akrherz has done to bring another instance of iembot feeds. If our X-perience has a lesson, we need multiple sources for critical information like IEM.
🤖 @xyzzy: Interactive text adventure that posts random scenarios.
🤖 @blackjoy: Images of black joy.
🤖 @pollbot: Random fedi polls twice a day.
🤖 @bahai: Regular quotes from the Bahá'í sacred writings.
🤖 @bahai: Digest of various Bahá'í news feeds.
@Bahais_Mexicali Wow, that's amazing! Thanks for letting me know. Listen - if you wouldn't mind, could you let me know the names of all the people in the picture? That way I can annotate the picture, like I did in the video i just posted. If you find other photos like that, you can let me know about those as well :)
